As annoying as second hand smoke may be to people, it is harmless. You are not ingesting any of the chemicals or sediments from the actual product. And it is a legal product so in my opinion, if people can make trillions from a product, I damn sure have the right to use it as I see fit. Seperated resteraunts and such with non-smoking and smoking designated areas is cool. But this shit around the country of outlawing/banning smoking in places is fucking ridiculous. More hypocrisy in the USA thats all. Make it illegal, then you have a say.
Did you even read the article you linked to?  It lists problems with the study, which used data that was not researched to look at second hand smoke, and is being called flawed by a current and, probably, and ex-surgeon general.  And you say that that one study debunks everything else?  It was funded through a tobacco company ffs!
There are hundreds of articles. Find one that suits you.

Is smoking a right or a priviledge that can be governed?

Yeah, I heard about those findings......But that aside, there is no disputing that it does make a non-smoker hard to breathe, or at keeps them from at least breathing comfortably. Again, I am not talking about times when non=smokers and smokers have a choice. I am talking about times when there is no choice, long lines, sitting on a long flight, on a bus...etc..
I agree it is irritating. I was at a fiar this weekend standng at the porto-potty by myself waiting while I finished my cig. A mother and her 2 children walk up behind me. I voluntarilly asked them to go ahead and I stepped a good 10 feet away to finish my smoke. We just need courtesy and good manners. Not new laws banning a legal product. Its a watse my tax dollars. Make laws about some REAL problems.

As for smoking in lines, and on a bus, it is illegal in my state which has been a law for many many many years. As far as smoking on a flight....I have NEVER seen that. Thats a safety hazard not a health hazard.

It is accepted fact by scientists and doctors *worldwide* that passive smoking causes lung cancer.  You still breathe in the carcinogens.  If you can find data which proves this wrong, then we'll talk.

I saw a great "Non Sequitur" once where a guy with a cigarette in is mouth is standing in front of St Peter who informs him "Actually, cigarettes were invented as an intelligence test, which brings us back to your early death.........".  Those comics crack me up.

yeah thats what killed businesses here, ignorant people refusing to not smoke  right in the centre of the establishment, so most of the non smokers left.

You will believe what you want. Im not judging, Im just asking (from a smoker who practices common courtesy around others) do not judge me or think any less of me because I smoke and you don't. We can wrestle if there is a problem. Right after I finish my cig.

Marijuana doesn't cause cancer. As a matter of FACT, it kills off cancerous cells.

So why is it not legal? <----rhetorical question (I know the answer to well)

I think that in resteraunts where they have a smoking and non-smoking section.. Its stupid. It's just like having a peeing and no peeing section in a pool.

Actually, bans on smoking flights is not that old....about 15 years ago smokers helped to troubleshoot pressurization leaks because the tar made streaks down the fuselage and you could easily spot the leaks.
other than health issues there is no safety concerns at all about smoking on a plane.

Being completely intolerant of cigarette smoke, meaning that I literally cannot breathe when people are smoking near me, it infuriates me to see people especially in the morning on my way to college walk up stairs on highly congested train stations smoking, so that whoever is walking behind them can't see two feet ahead of themselves. Not only does it eliminate my ability to breathe, but it makes ones clothes and skin STINK. Really. It stinks, and it just does not stop. To me, smoking in public is the same as someone walking up and holding rotten poultry infront of your face, and both I would consider disorderly conduct. I realise that many people smoke, and that it would be foolish to think that it would happen, but I say smoking should be banned in all public areas, including sidewalks.

Some people simply cannot tolerate it, and it's immensely inconsiderate.

controlled priviledge (at least based on how i interpret US law).  a person may have the right to smoke, but that person doesn't have the right to cause unaggrevated harm to another.  isn't that in the constitution?  something along the lines of "no person shall infringe upon the rights of others?"  the rights the constitution gives us are broad, but they're also circumstantial.  otherwise, some of them would be contradictory.  regardless of how i think law applies to it, i also feel the same way personally in that it should only be a controlled priviledge.

In many places it is legal, in many others it is allowed for medicinal purposes.  The greatest risk with marijuana is young users, who may ruin the balance in their brain.  In short:  Marijuana is *less* dangerous to users than standard cigarettes.

Why did you post an article that said the study you believe in is a joke?

Secondly, you go on believing secondhand smoke is harmless. The tobaco companies will tell you anything to make money. I think you should go wacth Thank you for Smoking.

Well, I have experience on this one. I was a smoker for 14 years (I am 29). I quit about 6 months ago.

I always was cordial when it came to smoking. I would never smoke in confined areas (except casinos), and never, ever around kids. It's a horrible habit, and just fekkin gross. I can't believe I smoked as long as I did.

I think our government is over-legislating this one. Then again, a lack of common sense in people makes it somewhat necessary. I feel dirty for saying that.
