I actually found an even better one.

2.4 GHz Northwood P4 400MHz, socket 478, $119.77 with taxes plus shipping.  Can't give you a link because my computer won't do anything on highlights when I rightclick because I did it too many times already this session.

Nope. That runs on a 533 FSB, his board wont support it.

I'm gonna have to get the 2.2 because my dad says it's better to just buy a brand new comp but it would be a good idea to get a cheaper processor off of eBay so I have to get on of those.

Will the standard fan/heatsink that i'm using now be able to sufficiently cool this processor or will I need a new one?

as others have said, save up another $100 and get a new mobo and processor.  You can get a 3200+ Venice (athlon 64) and an Asus A8N-E for about $250, which would be far better than that waste of $150 that you will be using.

That was my intention to upgradew my old RDRAM 1.4 GHZ 400 MHZ Bus Speed Pentium 4 to that Northwood with a FX5500, but then when Battlefield 2 specs were that high and alsoI run Virtual Operating Systems on my PC, I made the decision to spend a couple hundred more on a new computer. The one I use still sucks but for 600 total out the door, Play BF2 on Medium setting and handles Virtual OS's well. I am happy fo the next two or so years. So if I was you save the money and get a new system. The upgrade to a Northwood isn't a good choice.

All I need is a faster processor, some more RAM, and a new sound card and I will be able to safely play BF2 on high probably.

Another nice one: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=P4_2.2 … ed436b149#

Edit: And another http://www.nulime.com/p7291/cat2307/CPU … GA478.html

This one has a slow cache speed, but that doesn't really matter anyway.  I probably have an even smaller one on my current processor, lol.

If you don't wanna wait one of those will be an improvement but you won't be able to play anywhere near high settings even with that and some more RAM.....weren't you banging on about a PCI graphics card a while ago? that's gonna be your biggest bottle neck after a CPU upgrade.

You suggested a new system, thats fine, makes sense. But he said no, and you keep suggesting new systems. Now conroe has been mentioned. I mean WTF?

lol, at Best Buy they look at you funny for not wanting to buy the 50$ insurance plan with their computer parts.  The managers actually get mad at you if you don't force the product on the customer if you work there.
