I would stick with 939. AM2 is still rev. 1 and therfore will have some bugs. Its always like that. Also furture upgradeability is no use. By the time you want to upgrade, there will be some sort of new frature that you defenetely want (SATA III; HTT 3, whatever), forcing you to buy a new mobo with a new CPU. Or if you upgrade the gfx, what difference does the socket make
am2 is said to have future support for K8l.

there will be no such thing as sata 3, it will be called sumthing else. hell theres even no sata 2, its just sata 300mb thats all.
i know there is no SATA II, i was just trying to make a point.

K8l: but you will want to upgrade your mobo with a new cpu. A new HTT revision should be out by then

I would vote to upgrade the processor to the 3700+ San Diego, for an extra minimal amount of money you get 2x the L2 cache will will improve performance a bit, and if you decide to overclock it is excellent for that as well.

get a 7900gt, which is cheaper and better than the 7800gtx.

i wouldnt get value ram, get XMS series or OCZ platnum or sumthing, just not value, u will regret after a while
Please read the WHOLE topic...I am using XMS ram...

7800gtx is in production and sale (The compusa down the street from me offered to order one for me).  But if you noticed, I am using a 7900GT...

Remember the point of this is a comp for less than $1k, and im already over...  Two HDs is too expensive for the minimal system benefits.

And no you really don't need two video cards. I would actually suggest getting one 7800 GTX instead of two 7600 GT's. It probably costs the same if not less, and will give you better graphics and FPS.

yes there is, theres more than just 300mb in SATA II sheets, e.g. NCQ and other such things.. there IS sata II it's just no hard drive really can output at 300MB/s because that'd require something in the region of about 20,000rpm (loud)

no thats not true. SATA II does not exist. Even the new stuff like NCQ is part of a 1.x revision.

It's hard to tell for sure, but you might want to upgrade to a bigger PSU anyway, even if it is not the cause.

It should be located on the sticker on the side. It might be in small print, but its there.

Seconded. Once AM2 has gone through some developmental iterations, I will pick one up. I remember people who instantly jumped on the early PCI-e bandwagon and got stuck with poor performance.

Q2'07 is the time period during which I plan to upgrade. Alot of cool technology now should be quite mature (as well as cheaper) then. Not to mention G80 availability for a Vista setup (still going to have XP and hanging around my place, for older apps).
