I run 1920x1400 resolution for my 24" CRT.  I play with all settings maxed, except AA.  Doing so, it slows the game down drastically when i try to run any (2, 4, 8x) AA.

Does BF2 run good in SLI?  Im considering spending the additional $290 for another 7900gt to match with mine.. but not sure if itll matter much?

I dont trust the biased paid-off benchmarkers, so can someone that has went from a single 7900gt to dual chime in and let me know how they like it and if it was worth it?

lol I just baught a X1900XTX they have 48 Pixel Pipelines and 512 so allmost as good as 2 7900GTs
(sarcasm)

Nah another one would make a massive difference. I have a friend with Dual 7800GTS and he runs everything on Ultra High, with AA6X And he does it on a HDTV

2 7900GTs = Ownage

those x1900's are sweet cards.  Since having the 7900gt i really wish i wouldve went with ATI (the stability of this card and BF2 leaves things to be desired.

BF2 is a money pit.  I was happy with my 2400+ and FX5200 until BF2 came out.  Since then probably spent $1200 or so on new components

talk about an expensive game.

Since BF2 iv spent so much on Parts I could have baught car with it all

Another thing sombody posted was that if you turn AA on high in The Nvidia Settings it will run a lot better
I think it was a post on here but i cant find it

This will probably be more noise than actual advice for you.... but I have dual core AMD 4400 with an o/c 7800 GT card and I didn't see that much difference between mine and a friend's with dual 7900s (although he had just a single core 4200).   We both have 2 gig ram & 10k rpm harddrives..

We both have maxed out our effects including anti asiasing (8x).  I think you'll have marginal pickup with adding another 7900.  Your bigger pickup imo would be to increase the ram to 2 gig.  And it's also important to have a 10k rpm (or faster) hard drive.

if u run bf2 with sli,... u may experience the following
tabbing out is COMPLETELY screwed
if u tab out with in split frame rendering, (the only one that u can tab out with) expect to come back with half a black screen.. TOTALY screwed
run it in single gpu mode for "best" results i find cuz i can still tab out etc..
ever since getting sli, i have to reboot inbetween starting bf2.. if it crashes gotta reboot because the exe crashes whenever u try and start it more than once.. god knows why
but know this.. in sli..
FUCKING LOOKS SWEET
also 16xsli aa.. fuck me...
(overclocked venice cpu, 2gb xms3200xl, raid 0 sata drives (faster than a 10krpm drive) xfi)
but seriously sli makes it look superb

Thanks for the input,

I just did go to 2Gb of ram after a ram module failed.

Holding off on the 2nd 7900gt as i just realized its a never winning battle and i give up. lol

Your 7900 GT already beats my 7800 GTX... barely though

If you want to stick with Nvidia, sell your current 7900GT (it's worth about what you paid for it, and since it's still WORKING, that's a good sign...should move fast on Ebay).

Anyway, take that money, and the $290 you were going to spend on a 2nd 7900GT, throw in a few extra bucks, and buy a 7950 GX2...instant SLI, and you pick up something fairly important for high res gaming, which is another 256mb of vRAM, which WILL have an impact on BF2's performance all by itself.

The extra GPU is also going to help you bigtime at the resolutions you run.  And I'm pretty sure there's no worry of the GX2 asploding like the 7900's have been doing.  Plus, you can always add ANOTHER GX2 later, for some Quad SLI penis enlargement.

I run 1920x1080, and I see a noticable improvement turning my X1900 Crossfire on and off when playing BF2...especially since I run 4xAA, and HQ 16AF, and everything in-game set to high.  Even with my "old" monitor, at 1680x1050, Crossfire helped.

BTW, I have no alt-tab problems in BF2 with Crossfire, I alt-tab out often to check mail, etc.

okay, for all you guys out there who get your A's and F's confused: the maximum AA for an nVidia card is 4x, the maximum AA for an ATi card is 6x, the maximum AF for both ATi and nVidia is 16x. (thats why i went ATi after having nVidias for 5 years.)

2 7900gt in SLi would be ownage, but i have talked with a number of people who have had issues with running the 79s in SLi. apparently it depends what motherboard you have...if you bought the cheapest SLi mobo out there just to say you have SLi, bad choice. you need a newish, quality SLi board and a good processor (dual core or FX/EE) to run the 79s in SLi. if you have that, go for it!

I wouldn't buy a 7950GX2, I would wait for DX10.  Keep the 7900GT until then.

If you want dual 7900s, just buy a 7950 GX2.  Much less likely to die and pretty much the same thing as dual 7900s except you don't get extra DVI slots.  If you have an O.K. paying job go for it, otherwise wait for DX10.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I know you can play BF2 with a SLI rig, but BF2 doesn't support it, like some other  game. SLI technology is a new tech. and will be better displayed with new games that are developed. This is also true of the new Agsis Physics card.
