Sure, i think it would be a great idea, it would prevent war, the EU would be the strongest economy in the world, the army would be one of the biggest, the economy today is growing fast and the future is looking bright. But on the other hand, it would be a really hard thing to "do", there are so many diffrent cultures, some countries would feel like they were left out and so on!

I think it would be great!!!! The world could use an even stronger Democracy that is a superpower in the world. It would definately benefit the USA and the world.

The only problem is that history shows that doing something like this will not work. The many diffenences in laws, traditions, politics, language, and history between the countries would most likely tear the "United Europe" apart. Could you imagine the anomosity between the states during election time. I think you would have terrorism and fighting from within the "UE" country that would pale to anything seen in history.

i dont think that would be a problem. Just wait like 10 years, and everything has settled down withing the EU and then we can start talking. We all share the same religion, and all states are democratic so why not?

Further centralising power leads to corruption. So - no to the USE, in retrospect. Also, democracy on such a vast level would be ill-advised. There would be far larger disenfranchised minorities, who might try and fuck the 'democracy' up.

Essentially, this is what the Euro is already doing. You guys are somewhat sharing a bank account. The officials who organized the Euro knew this and have obviously used our former Articles of Confederation to learn what works and what doesn't. So long as you all share the same currency, it's only a matter of time before this country becomes a reality. Just look at our history.

Who said anything about America? We are talking about Europe here.

Title says "United States of Europe", not "United States of America".

If a bunch of countries were under the same King / Queen, they could be called "United Kingdom" as well.

Well the current EU has so many problems, every single country in the EU has different interrests... and I think its not Possible to "Build" an European USA ... not all countries in the EU are Democracy.

What you suggest already exists! It's called the United States of America. It is 50 countries more or less lashed together for common interest. It has a multitude of cultures, etc etc blah blah. Now the Soviet Union tried it and flopped so there are some lessons learned somewhere to worry about.

A United Europe could work possibly. I think the euro federal elections would be fun to watch from here across the sea. Then we could laugh at someone besides ourselves.
