WASHINGTON - A computer disk with personal data of about 26.5 million U.S. veterans was stolen from the home of a Veterans Affairs analyst, the federal department said Monday.

If 26.5 million vets had info on a single disc that means either:

a) That's one big, fucking, ultra government uber l33t disc
b) The files are pretty fucking small
C) I dont know jack shit about how many .txt files can fit into a disc
d) I didn't bother reading the article

Damn, I wish I still just partied and got smashed the whole time still.... otherwise I wouldn't feel the need to point out that:

a) A DVD holds 4.7 billion bytes
b) Which allows a maximum of about 173 kb per record
c) Which is quite alot
d) But it almost certainly ended up in a skip, cos it was just a normal burglary and the guy probably left it in the drive or something stupid like that...

Did it say what kind of disk it was? Was it a DVD?

I do not know why someone, outside of the government, would put something on a disk that could so easily be stolen or lost. Brilliant Government. (-1 Karma for you Government)

Word of mouth over here has it that the government knew about this for over a week before they bothered releasing news of the theft. Roll out the conspiracy theories.
