There is a lot going on today here in California regarding Illegal immigration and illegal immigrants. Here in California the illegal population has grown so significantly it’s beginning to have a negative impact on our economy. Schools are packed to the hilt with kids that do not speak a lick of English and our emergency rooms are overflowing with people who cannot pay (most illegal immigrants do not have health insurance because they are paid under the table). Car insurance is through the roof because of the larger then normal number of uninsured in California.

Today the immigrant population in California is protesting new immigration laws which target ILLEGAL immigration and making it sound like those of us who are against ILLEGAL immigration are also against legal forms of immigration. The US is a melting pot of many different backgrounds and ethnic origins. I love that about this country, but I do not like people coming over our borders illegally and then expecting those of us who are here legally to fort the bill when they get hurt, hungry or need a little extra to pay the rent. Then to top it off they fly THEIR countries flag on their cars, their houses and in the streets when they protest. Then if we say anything about it we are called racist.

IF YOU WANT TO COME TO AMERICA FINE! BUT COME AND BE AMERICAN NOT F***ING SOMETHING ELSE AND DO IT LEGALLY!

I read "The Tortilla Curtain" from Boyle, that gave me as a European a little insight in that problem.
What do you, if you know it, think about that book? Most of the illegal immigrants you are regarding to, if not all, are Mexican. Some people in Germany feel overrun by Turkish people (yeh, not good to say such things as a German) who want to earn their money here. This situation is quite similar to the Californian one, "our" immigrants also protest not as Germans, but as Turkish.
But saying everyone should be a German even before he lived a certain time in Germany (or everyone should be US-American before he lived in USA) can't be the solution for our integration problem.
We as "native" Germans/Americans should help them to integrate, to become German/American when we let them into our countries. Otherwise they build sub-cultures nobody could control.
So.. what about language schools for immigrant children? insurance-duty? low-paid-jobs-support? and so on...

Its weird here in Canada, you need to live 2 years before you cant even apply for ur canadian papers.

but i would agree about changing it to, if ur accepted give the papers right away if not accepted dont even put ur feet in the country, Because this is where the problem start. If after the 2 years u done, u are not accepted and u are oblige to leave to ur country some of them will just change city and stay here as illegal immigrants.

i had 2 of my classes today cancelled because of the boycott (im in college). you know, i kinda think thats bullcrap. with tuition and everything, that cost me a good 50 bucks.

a big problem with this is that the people who came here illegally have had children here, so the children are American citizens because they were born in this country but the parents are not. so now you have childen and teenagers who are Legal, but their parents are not. this movement should have taken place years ago before this problem started. now if you ship off all illegal immigrants, then your breaking up the families. honestly, Im all for getting rid of Illegal immigrants. But im also for Immigration (honestly, EVERYONE immigrated to this country at one point, even native americans) but now you have the whole families variable. so its a tough call. if you send the parents back, then the kids have no parents, and if you deport the whole family, then your deporting american citizens. if they go and become Legal immigrants that would be for the best. and honestly, even if they decide to get rid of all illegal immigrants, how im the hell are you gonna round up 2 million people, its just not possible. and the giant wall thing...come on. all i got to say about that is that it will just keep out the slower ones from getting over. its a touchie subject, and i do not know all the details. this is just my opinion. i really do not want to start a flame war. i know what i want in the end, its just how you go about it is the tough call.

When I was coming home today (I live in DC), there were multiple radio news reports from the various demonstrations. For those protesting, they kept saying "immigrants are people too and deserve rights just like everyone else." The thing they kept leaving out was the word ILLEGAL. There are multiple LEGAL ways to emigrate to the US. Yes, it takes a while. Yes, it's a bureaucratic nightmare. Guess if you really wanted to take your FAIR part of the American dream, you would go through with that, wouldn't you?

But no...it's easier to just cross the border, get a (or multiple) low-paying jobs from unscrupulous employers. And not pay taxes (payroll or income--multiple guilty parties). And leach off of an already-stressed public service infrastructure. And then bitch because you "deserve" the right to be here!

What a load of crap. You deserve to be here if you follow the rules that were established for you to come here legally and FAIRLY participate in the system. If the first thing you do on coming to this country is break the law, you don't deserve anything but a quick trip back to where you came from, minus the taxes on the amount of money you earned while here.

I submit that we mirror Mexicos illegal immigration policies. I would also condone targeted removal ( to the hereafter ) of ANY politician who supports our lack of a border. This is not fun and games kiddies; while you weren't looking your country was sold out.
     I am an employer, and yes some of my men are illegal aliens. The funny thing is that they also make the most money. I have struggled for five years to have a totally legal work force but it's impossible. Try it.
     My highest paid wetback makes about $1,000.00 per week. He drives a new truck, has a cell phone, a social security number but can't have a drivers license. It's completely false to say that these people, en masse are being taken advantage of. I don't care anymore who you are or where your from I am truely a color blind employer. Except for my fellow whites; I tend to discriminate, if anything AGAINST them because in my experience they are most likely to have attendance problems, drug habits and sticky fingers.  I love my Mexicans ( whom, of the four I have only one asked for the day off to join the national " Day without a Mexican Day"), not for the money they make me but because they are usually really good people.
     The politicians, on the other hand, whom spend billions on this " war on terror", yet leave our borders open...these are the people I focus my wrath on. It's now clear that we have lost this war without a shot being fired. I say, don't shoot the Mexicans, shoot our cowardly politicians.
     In closing, were I not in my posistion as an employer, I would be down on the border with the Minuteman Project. As someone who has to deal with illegal immigration everyday I can honestly say that the situation IS VERY complicated. We have a 4.6% unemployement rate; deduct ten million or so Mexicans and what do you have? A major fucking labor crisis.
     It's time we dig a fence, or annex Mexico. Anything less is cowardly and unrealistic.
     By the way, yes I may have miss-spelled a few words and botched the grammar; I'm a 9th grade drop-out who owns a million dollar company ( gross revenues per year ). Is n't that the real American dream? To succeed according to our efforts? Will my son ( who WILL have the chance to go to college ) have the same chance? Not likely, because there are millions more behind this current crop, waiting to get in. A poorly built house will soon collapse under it's own weight, and Americas house needs some repairs.

Totally agree. I think the Citzenship test needs totally reformed. Who the fuck cares about dead presidents and national holidays!?!? What i dont understand is why northamerican countries have borders but when you go to europe you can  go to many different countries and go through them just like a state now explain that to me?

i live in california and go to high school there, my schools population is 1/3 hispanic people, but i dont know how many are illegeal. and it doesnt bother me so much that they are illegal but there is just alot of them that think there gangsters. but then again i dont pay taxes.

but you all do realize that california and texas and a few other states used to be part of mexico and some spanish people may feel that, in thoes states they feel they have a right to be there.

but think logically, if they were to attempt to kick out all the illigeal aliens, that would be a lot of people to move, and all thoes people wouldnt be happy about it. if you could make in a day here, what you would make in two weeks in mexico, you would be here. but thats just my opinion. sorry for the rambeling post.

Passing through is not the same thing as getting a job, ignoring zoning and litter laws and such. Plus going from France to Germany is like driving from Colorado to Arizona. Besides I'd wager you'd have problems in Europe traveling through borders without a passport.  It's as if 12 million Eithiopeans crashed the gates and scattered themselves across Europe with out so much as a "Good Day!" They come with only the clothes on their backs.

They have papers, so im not going to complain.  Our country was built off of immgrants, so im not downing immigration totally.  BUT, it is bullshit that there are some 11-12 million here illegally.  Question...if we can calculate numbers like that, why the F^*K cant we do anything about stopping it to begin with?  Its crap that they can go and protest in the city streets and say "we have rights"....well, in my book, you dont have United States Constitutional rights if your here illegally.  That Constitution provides rights to American citizens....which doesnt include julio that dug a tunnel from Tijuana to San Diego and comes here to work and not pay taxes, and makes my insurance premiums for medical and auto go up because they dont pay their part when they need medical attention or when they wreck a car and run off.  I know it happens with american citizens too, but it wouldnt be as big of a problem.

I have a full proof way of preventing people from border hopping.....that chain link fence the gov't wants to put up on a border that isnt watched good enough to begin with wont do shit.  Put up a 10' barbed wire fence, past that a 200 yd. mine field, then another 10' barbed wire fence.  If they make it past that, give them a citizen ship, they earned it.

We must remember the difference between legal/illegal immigrants. If you're too lazy to become a legal citizen, then you are inherently too lazy to pay taxes, get a job, and live under the law. We don't want illegals out just because they're here illegally; they need to be stopped because of the burden they place on our economy and--sometimes--society.
