Not going to be the last. What with the number of bugs still around and EA's rep for introducing new ones, they're not going to be done for a long time...

There will probably be patches once Armoured Fury is released. But not before.

Battlefield 1942 had several patches, the last being 1.6. Judging by that, I doubt that 1.3 will be the last BF2 patch.
That being said, they are introducing BF2's Vietnam couterpart earlier than 42's, so who knows. Think about it though, Battlefield 1942 is still widely played, it's not like there will be a sudden stop to everyone playing it. I think it has already started decreasing in popularity, shown by the decline of it's little brother Special Forces.

It will probably die before I get a new computer. Battlefield 1942 was to be my reason for getting a new PC. Four years later I still have this white-and-purple piece of crap, (the computer dosn't actually work, but the eight year old laptop dosn't charge the batteries on my iPod so I have to keep it around.)

Otherwise, I agree with Remo. They'll milk this, (pig?) for as long as possible. Thanks to someone's brilliant plan of 'booster packs' we the consumers are still paying for it. Once it becomes unprofitable then it will decline into nothingness.
Sad, but they'll still be me here, clinging on in the forums, probably with my new computer. It'll be good enough to play Battlefield 2, but not good enough to play any recent games.

Ah, someone caught the lame attempt at humor.

But yea, that's exactly what I meant.  The booster packs are "milking" money from us ... new content!  new features!  OKEY WE PAY MONEY.  Quite simple, really.

I think that once the new booster comes out there will be less players from the lack of better content in the booster....and the reason '42 is still widely played is because of it's load times! My comp takes about 5 seconds to load the biggest '42 Map and if takes like 10 minutes to load Kark on 16......

SF is dying because people moved to EF, and likewise will to AF. Because people have to buy all these expansion packs, and not many do, the expansion pack community slowly dies out as people get bored of those maps or move on to other games. Because not everyone can partake in those maps they are destined to fall out, and all that will remain is BF2 core, with a handful of extra SF servers etc. Those booster packs exclude too much of the community from playing and keeping that resource alive. Unless one of the boosters proves absolutely exceptional, like DC for '42 did, then they will all die and EA will make short term $ and move on.

EAs booster packs are only an initial economic flare, then they will die out as people see less and less players on them, and less and less reason to buy into that additional crap. Look at BF42's expansions. I bought one of them and played it once, and was like wow nobody plays this back to core '42.

EA is trying to milk this series by producing those booster packs (but they are short term). If they wanted to retain a core body of gamers, and make more people buy BF2 at full price, they should have just released additional maps with minor new content (a new vehicle whatever). More people would continue on with BF2 if additional content was added to BF2 to keep them interested. Not many will buy a new BF42 copy, and 3 expansion packs a few months from now. They'd be lucky just to buy BF2 and stick with that until EA lets this installment of the series die, which seems to be pretty quick given the attention to game mechanics we've had so far.

I'd rather they have charged more for the initial game (honestly it was better and more worthwhile then a lot of games out there, and you don't pay per month thank God), instead of splitting the community over and over with booster packs. Each booster pack you release, is another community split dooming those smaller expansions to die out as said above. If EA kept the community together by only releasing fixes and maps for BF2 the longevity of this series would far surpass what we have now. As you can see already, EA is cramming that 2142 shit down everyones throat and as soon as that goes beta to market, you can bet DICE is going to be dealing with the fuckups in that code and ignoring the final beta we have as BF2 now.

Anyway, who doesn't want new maps for BF2? I bet only "tard, chrnoicle and vengeance" would disagree with that.

There is way too much jargon above this post, seems more like a pussy hurt rambling to me, special forces has hardly died, people are stuck on running pistol and knife only servers in karkand or warlord these days. Now they have claymore/c4/pistol/knife only servers which are quite funny actually because I can do a server search and find 12 right now.

Thats not my point. The point is special forces isnt' dying anytime soon and on top of things I wish those dumbshits at dice could integrate the two so we could run special forces and vanilla bf2 simultaniously so we wouldnt have to run 2 seperate servers.

Yeah that'd be great dicektxgg.

Euro Forces was complete garbage, it was 3 maps of what armored fury is supposed to be. I have all of the dirt I need to know plus map pictures that I have to keep private but thats also not important, nobody switched from special forces to euro forces. If anything when euro forces came out we ran it on our server for a week strait and by the end of that week we were dying to get it back into vanilla mode w/o the euro forces maps. Great wall is just too godamned big, Taraba quarry is a jet whore map. and super super super tank whore map. And Operation Smokescreen should be called operation armor screen and aa screen. Great map if you want to pad some hours in AA.

I havent played euro forces since and matter a fact I cant even load the maps.

But that said I dont believe the support for this game is going anytime soon.

Even if 1.3 was the last patch, we always have mod developers, who in the end, make it a better game than DICE could ever hope to do.

I wish DICE would add more vehicles, more maps, more weapons, without a $10 download. Sadly, they won't, and eventually we'll all end up on unranked mod servers 2 years from now, having fun with a game EA abandoned because of a failed add-on program that nobody wanted to pay for.

The question is not "how many new patches will we see?". The question is "How many people will  play BF2 after 1.3  and how many people will need new patches?"

One could only hope this would be the last.  Geeze how many times can they keep changing the game play.  I think this patching thing is getting out of hand.

so true. all ea has to do to keep the community alive is merge the expansion and the booster with the core bf2. so people can play karkand, warlord, and then great wall withouth having to log off and log back on. if they do that then guarantee the bf2 community wouldnt die out. and they could release more expansions and alot more people would end up buying it.

Its the other way around, Dice Canada is making 1.3 while DICE Stockholm is making 2142. DICE Stockholm always does the new games while DICE Canada does patches and addons(booster packs, expansions, etc etc)

but all of your games are free, and that would be unethical for EA since they like to work their employee's like slaves with unpaid overtime leaving the programmers to go home to unhappy house wives.

No thanks. DICE now already gives us shit like this, if they'll have sex for a couple of cents i don't want to see the games they'll come up with.

What did you mean by cheap again?

Ohh.
