Check your options menu, might be after a patch or something u have to reset your controls.

Though i tend to agree thats if prolly because u are commander and the game gives u a fair share of asswife-commander-should-stay-the-hell-out-of-vehicles thingy ;-)

Just checked this out and you are indeed correct ... Commanders are not allowed to use vehicles on ranked servers. This seems a little draconian to me although if I see a commander flying in future I am going to take a lovely screenie and post it up on BF2Rankedservers.com. Sorry to hijack the thread just thought it was worth noting this forgetten RoE.

lol maybe it's the same problem I've had months ago when I wanted to drive/walk/fly in GTA:SA, the caracter was going to its right all by itself!! Same when I got into a car or plane, but then I found out, it was my steering wheel lying on its side to the right, so I disconnected the steering wheel and suddenly I was able to play normal without keep on going to its right ^^

omfg my English sux so bad, sry for that ^^

you say you don't use a mouse.  do you use a joystick?  If so then maybe you should re-calibrate it.

That being said, in all other situations it isn't right to use vehicles and command at the same time, unless it is an excess vehicle (hummer or something) and you need to drive over to repair the commander toys.

I have to agree with M730A2 on this.  No matter how good you are at multi tasking if at any point you aren't looking at your commander screen and monitoring what's going on you aren't really doing your job as a commander to the best of your abilities.  That's awesome that you can still get a good score and all while doing two jobs but I would venture to bet you would be an even better commander if you weren't splitting your time between flying and commanding.  Just my 2 cents.  Nothing personal by it.
dude have you ever played on a server where everything goes????
ive have seen some kick ass commanders fighting right beside my sqaud thats what i call supporting your team troops instead of looking at a screen that shows you everything going on
i think the rule about commanders and planes tanks whatever is for those guys that dont play hard enough
now there are those commanders that suk so hard u need to vote them out no matter what isnt that why they put the mutiny option in???

so if you dont want to fight as commander there are plenty of severs out there for you

2cents
I'll take your 2 cents and raise you 2.

Yes, I have played on a server like that but I fail to see the relevance.  Please elaborate.

I have never seen that.  I rarely ever see the real kick ass commanders because they are off doing their job of supporting the team by firing artillery, tasking the UAV, dropping supplies, scanning and spotting enemy troops, etc.

I'm curious, for those that you call "kick ass" commanders that apparently "play hard enough" to allow them to run around, fly around, drive around, etc., are they using telekinesis or something on the commander screen?  Because that would be really the only way I could think that they could do that.

I guess that makes 4 cents now.

We have a program running next to our servercontrol software that automaticly kicks ( after 3 warnings) a commander in any plane, chopper or tank/apc (any vehicle but RIB and transport).
Thats because we were getting sick of those "kick ass- fighting with the team" commanders who are only doing a great job if you're fighting right next to them.
Really, the problem with the "fighting" commanders is, they only use the assets for themselves. And don't forget; every kill you make as a commander, is one less kill for your team and less points for you.

The reason for that rule is that commanders can use it to statspad, in a way - when you're a commander, any kills you get with artillery are added to your kill counts for the kit you're using and the kind of vehicle you're in (although as mentioned before they don't add to your round score). This means that commanders have a very easy way of acquiring things like the ground defence badge .

Commanders will often also idle in a vehicle in order to get closer to the time requirements for vehicle badges; needless to say if they're idling in an APC to get their vet armour badge, they're not going to be helping their team out much.

Commander suck in any vehicle. The reason why he was  badass while you were fighting near him is because thats where he is at, of course he's gonna make sure he's okay, but screw the other 31 people, you just so happened to be near his UAV and Supply Box.

I'm afraid I can't give you any insite on the "glitch".  One thing I can tell you is that you are not going to win the argument of commanders make good pilots/pilots make good commanders.  You simply can't do both good.  Dropping suplies and arty is only half of what a good commander does.  The best commanders I have seen are on the VOIP to the squad leaders constantly, spotting snipers/tanks/etc, updating them on when assets are available, and where large concentrations of enemy are.  The only way you can do that is to find someplace to hide and lay there with the commander screen open.

If the OP actually comes back to this thread, I would just like to say I have never had this happen to me... Then again, the only vehicles I spend any time in are transports sooo....

As previously mentioned if you use a joystick maybe you should recalibrate it. Have you updated all your drivers  and stuff to their current versions?
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

§2.3 You may not deliberately hinder your own team or acting in such as way as to cause team mates unavoidable deaths or team losses.
§ Commander flying or in a vehicle instead of commanding
§ Destruction of friendly vehicles
§ Excessive team killing
§ Team switching to gain medals or awards

Like it's already been said, don't fly, don't sit in a tank/apc/etc command and command only.

Sorry, I don't have much to offer in regards to your question about the glitch. However it really sounds like a joystick calibration problem.

In regards to commanding in vehicles? I think mostly it is a hindrance to your team. You can't scan and spot - probably the most important role of the commander IMO for winning rounds.

I do have some scenarios where I think it is reasonable. USMC on Karkand, occasionally you get a handful of armor whores that ONLY want to camp south of the hotel where they have protection. The MEC always obliges and will keep the battle right there because this is just about the only scenario that can grant them a win. I sometimes find it necessary to begin denying these drivers supply drops, moving supply drops up to near the square, and also moving the UAV further from the uncappable.

I also will occasionally take the armor myself and use a path of least resistance route to a back flag like the suburb, market, or gatehouse based on scans. Sometimes as commander you are almost the only one that even seems to be going for an overall win and armor, if used briefly to lead necessary attacks, can gain you a lot of territory and shift the location of the 'central battle'.

But one caveat to all this is that if you are going to do it, you have know that you can use the vehicle in question well enough to capture your flag or what have you or else you are just wasting time and points that a non-commander could be getting you. Its better to develop your basic skills in singleplayer, or at least not in commander mode.

A commander that is a good infantry fighter can also get the ball rolling as USMC at Wake by flying a jet and bailing out at high altitude over the beach or the north base. There are generally very few enemies lying in wait here and scans/UAV will probably give you the advantage you need to capture that one flag and get your raped teamates from the carrier on the island and fighting. This is especially true now that it is near impossible for your teamates to cross the ocean in a blackhawk so long as the j-10 pilots and AA operators are decent.

These are mostly just last resort tactics for when your team isn't producing results but the tickets are starting to trickle away. Commanders may not receive points for the fighting they do, but with complete control of the assets, they are the most advantaged player on the battlefield when they choose to fight. They just lessen the advanrtages of their teamates by directing the assests on themselves. You wouldn't ever want to impose that disadvantage on your team unless it is going to lead to a clear and immediate benefit (ie., not just the 4 kills you are going to get before being blown up by the TOW you forgot was in the middle of the square... with your noob ass...    ).

Oh wow. My dead topic. Anyways I found out later, upon reading BF2RS forum, a complaint has been made to commanders flying, and the ROE got changed... Again. Lovely eh? When your team is on the tip of both islands, and you have a J-10 sitting lovely on the airfield... Are you gonna resisit? Anways like I said my team were happy >> If a commander doesn't fight. it's kinda a waste of a spot eh? I think I found my problem... The batteries in my wifi mouse went bad. And nothing else really for me to do that game but spot enemies on the boat... I mean they spawn... they got slaughtered....

WTF? Ppl, lay off the guy, will you? I don't like it either, but how about actually answering?

I don't play Dragon Valley much, so I can't say. Check your keyboard and clean it out, that might be a problem (it changed inputs to go down-sideways, sending you into a barrelroll). I notice sometimes I crash for no reason, then I found out that I wasn't pressing the key hard enough and it just fell from the sky.
