Does anyone honestly think that tanks of the future will be walking on 2 legs? I don't know, seems kinda weird. They better have some really cool features on that game, because BF2 has a ton of kick ass features.

I think next bf will be battlefield:mars forces and there will be much spaceships and other crap.только не это!!
It looks fantastic
Btw, anyone noticed the small slip they did with EA? Dice and EA merged, but nobody has really caught on to it yet. Try www.dice.se and then the english version, then read the highly boring press release about it.

I'll weigh in as well I guess.
Will I buy it: Yes, just like I bought BFV (I am a complete pwn when it comes to this series), and had it sit on the shelf since the first week. I tried it, and went back to the desert combat mod. The Heli's flew so much easier, and there wasn't that stupid doppler effect of a chopper playing CCR passing by... ".... it ain't me, it aIN'T ME, I AIN'T NO SEnetor's so......" That used to bug me enough, I had to turn off music altogether when playing.
Comparison to other games: Of course; the obvious choices would be Mechwarrior, UT4, A little from Tiberian Sun, and that DAMN chopper from Half Life 2 (I hated that thing!!!)
Surprised?: No, not really... where else where they going to take this series? It was either apocolyptic future, or into the middle ages (no response to the aqua world topic ). I would have expected to see this as the result of a successful mod (refering to Fogotten Hope or Desert Combat), but modding hasn't taken off as quickly with the BF2 community. They have no other conflicts to mime from in the present.
Do I think I will like it?: Maybe. It's hard to judge from the video clip, because I am still waiting for the blackhawk missiles, and the hovercraft I was promised from a similar BF2 video clip. Questions about cloaking armor, strength of the battle mechs, troop armor / weapon payload will be asked for months before EA gives some sort of forecast of what will actually be in the game.
Is there something else on the Market that will be better?: Quake wars does look interesting, and while every good series of games has it's pinnicle (C&C: Red Alert, Half-Life 2, Star Wars: Tie Fighter are some examples), the company needs to generate new revenue, otherwise the company will never recover profit from the development of the new graphics engine, and the millions of hours of code it takes to make one of these.
Should they fix the bugs in BF2 first?: I would love them to do that too, but lets think about the bottom line. The purpose of EA is not to make you happy with the product you already have, it is to make you want the product that is coming. They will fix the bugs in BF2 as long as the community keeps buying into it. If they buy Euro Forces or Armor Fury, your sending a financial message that there is strength in that market still, and not to move the marketing to something new yet.
This is why some series, while rehashing the same material again and again, are improving the overall feel, and experience of the game (Need for Speed series is the first that comes to mind on this one).
Anyhow, We have until next spring before we begin to think about it. Unless this is being done as a mod project (like BFV was), in which case, it could be released in 2 quarters. This could have the added benifit of the coding bugs could be worked as a new title fix, and if they make the engine backwards compatible, correct the flaws in BF2 at the sametime!
Just a dream for now though.... sigh

Honestly? Hell no. "Walkers" are inherently far more unstable, being more topheavy, and not having a wide base like tanks. If walkers are EVER reality, they will not carry tank-calibur weaponry, maybe missiles and chopper-style autocannons. The only strategic advantage I see in walkers is manuverability, other than that, tanks work just fine in their current basic template.Mr.Pieeater wrote:

insane gfx requirement and cpu requirements. I'll have no chance at it, i'll probably be stuck with BF2 when it ocmes out

It can cause the planet to shift the temp by a couple of degrees, causing freakish storms that are greater than ever measured before.
Second would be a rebalancing of the equilibrium. Europe could see massive drops in temp within decades because of the polar ice melting.
If all the polar ice melted, the ocean levels wouldn't rise up and "sink" the earth. Waterworld was a fantasy. All the polar ice would only give a 1 to 2 meter rise in the water level. This would screw Fiji, and New Orleans, but for the most part, it would have little effect to the major land masses.
F***ing stupid that they are releasing another game so quickly, but.... sigh.... ill end up buying it

Do you know the HL2-Mod: Hidden Source? I think its kind of hard to knife there somebody. Perhaps it would be similiar. Or why shouldn't they also include thermalsight for the cloaked people?tF-afrojap wrote:

This is going to make knifing very easy.. or lightsabering.. or whatever the fook they use to stab things in the future. Supersonic vibrating forks maybe?
I don't know how much the oceans would rise, but i think its possible that the melting of ice caps could cause a freeze period (sry, i dont know the right english word). Theory: The water from the caps would lower the salt to water ratio in the oceans so perhaps they could freeze (on some places). This would have massive impacts on the clima.BlackLegion42 wrote:

"...Apparently each base class will have two subclasses to choose from, such as support going engineer or medic. And you can develop the class "RPG style" as you progress, with a more extensive ranking system like BF2's.
Snipers and spec-ops are two paths to take in the "recon" class. There appears to be two sniper rifles. They have a cloaking ability that makes them appear like a blurry blob running around (when moving), when cloaked they are almost invisible. One of the branches carries tracking bugs they can plant on/near things which will put some kind of target on those enemies, and the article mentioned some weapons will automatically track/follow that target. They also get EMP grenades disabling vehicles and binding players.
Assault didn't get revealed too much except they have "badass guns", and the secondary fire on them launches proximity grenades (unless it hits someone/thing then it blows up).
Support you can choose from engineer or medic. Nothing revealed about medic, but engineers will have drones they can deploy which will spot enemy targets and attack with some light firepower, but it's made clear that it is a very loud obvious device that will attract attention to you. Also they will have access to 3-4 types of mines.
Anti-tank had really no info about it at all. PCG guessed the branches are anti-air and anti-ground vehicle, and their rockets might seek...."
Don't you people see?! This game WIIL ROCK. It will implement the "sub class division" like in BFV, I loved that feature of BFV. This game is gonn abe the shiznit.

This is not entirely true. The polar icecaps themselves will not bring about a great rise in water levels, because in their current state they are displacing about as much water as they are made of themselves. (In other words, if you place some ice cubes in a glass of water, and wait until the ice melts, the water level will be about the same. )SunTzu wrote:

What WILL bring a rise in water levels is the ice that exists on land, like in most of greenland. If that water melts, it could have a much greater impact on the oceans, because it would be akin to pouring more water into the glass of water that i mentioned just now. There is also the issue of thermal expansion, whereby water that is warmer will take up more room relative to cold water. This doesn't make any difference on small scales, but if the temperature of all the water in all the oceans in the world is raised by a few degrees, the water level will rise. However, you were right about the significance. All of this combined won't make a lot of difference on a global scale, at least as far as humans are concerned.
That was sort of off topic wasnt it.
reminds me of mechwarrior, looks awesome
bunny hopping armor whores . Looks awsome
It looks shit, if I want a game like that I will play Halo. The story side of things is lame too. Yeah, real disapointment.

I played DF:BHD a hell of a lot and played my fair share of land warrior before the hackers, do a search for DFBHD or LW trainers and i'm sure you'd get something that you could use.
I didn't say....
and i'm sure if you played in well admined servers you would never have to play with hackers anyway. Sheesh thanks for telling me you played DF2 without seeing a hacker I really give a shit.(novalogic games have a shit load of hackers)
I have updated the original post with a link to the scans of the PCGAMER May Issue with all pages related to BF2142.
C'mon, as if there won't be counter-balance at work. They wouldn't just make an invisible class and leave it at that. As bjColt speculated, there will probably be thermal sites for other kinds of troopers to spot them with, or my guess is (as you say yourself) that it will be 'sprint-stamina' like feature, where you could only use it sparingly and then have to recharge it for ages, to ensure that you can't just run around invisible all the time. So you'd use it strategically, to sneak around here and there, not stay invisible the whole round or anything.E7IX3R wrote:

What are Ea/Dice thinking? Do they not pay attention to how overused the support kit is now because of its uber l33t gun?
They better think of some way to regulate the amount of time you can use it for. Otherwise every man and his dog are going to be running around the map invisible.

Invisible snipers...THAT'S when I'll be happy with 2142.
For a short period of course, like oberst_enzian said.

FINALLY:

Is it time to give this a Topic Du Jour section yet, or shall we wait a bit? I imagine later Chuy'll have to add a whole other section to the site to deal with it. DiEAce should really pay him royalties you know.
Sounds... interesting. Does anyone know if they're doing a rank and awards system again? That would be funky.

Friends list. Sub-Classes. Offline vs. AI mode. for these reasons, ill probably pick it up, if nothing else. seems that EA might have been listening to the request for Friends list and AI in LAN games.
How you guys are *not* seeing the similarity to BF1942 vs BFV I have no idea. Why nobody has commented on that, I also have no clue. If you have questions as to how its likely to get implemented, look at BFV.
Its probably the same engine, just with some interested twists. I dont think it will be a horrid game, and stupidly unbalanced. like bf2, it will have some imbalances, but even in bf2, imbalances can be overcame by superior gameplay.
One thing I do not want to see: modern weapons, only "laser". translation: "laser" assault rifle, "laser" sniper rifle, "laser" shotgun, etc etc. thats always stupid and lame.
I saw a guy reloading, so hopefully they arent battery packs, hopefully they are looking at the more realistic case-less ammo. whichever. as long as its not lasers or, sorry "blaster" rifles. lame-o.

I will not buy it!
How come they release it so quickly? I syill enjoy BF2 ffs! WHy start with a new BF game then? And also, BF in the future? not a cool idea! We've all seen this is other games - Unreal, Halo etc. so: better buy the next UnrealTournament, not BF3431 whatever!
Angry!!

well, I am not into this sci-fi stuff myself when it comes to FPS. I like games that have some connection to the real world as it is now. I also happen to like ground / infantry combat a lot and I reckon BF2142 will largely be about mechanized units.
I tried Star Wars Battlefront and didn't find it to be very appealing. Same goes for the UT series or Quake.
Just not my kind of games, I suppose. Still, it could turn out to be a great game, depending on the reworks they ( will have to ) do on the engine.
Will I buy it ? Difficult to say at this point. Looking at the timeframe EA has usually provided with release dates, we have a long way to go anyway.
Fall 2006 ? I doubt it.
If it happens, we will see how the demo plays. I am certainly not buying another EA product without having tested the demo first.
