When I think of the future I think of a gun that uses EM rail to shot the rounds.  I believe thats possible.  They have trains that use the same principle, just a lot slower. lol

Why don't they remake BF42, with the ranking system, award system, new graphics engine and improved WW2 weapons? it would more played (i think) than another futuristic one, anyone agree with me??

A future game is the logical progression for the series. Why go over ground that BF2 has already covered?

The fact is we don't yet know how well they'll pull off the future setting, hopefully it'll be done in an original way, but can you think of a future senario that hasn't ever been touched on before??

correct, this is the last game of the BF2 franchise, and I'm not exactly sure what they're doing next...heard rumors about "Black" or something

Well, I'm with you! that would be awesome! even vietnam would be great (if they cut a couple of lame maps and put new ones instead)

The problem i have with BF2142, is that it use the same engine as BF2 (buggy?!?!?!?)

I fear the red/blue tag bug to come back.

i just imagine how fun battleaxe, berlin, ect would be with squad and all!

...just dreamin'

"Black" is already a playstation 2 game.
Welcome to today.

But seriously..what else can they do after BF2142?   BF: Moon Combat?

"+ Usable Toilets on the Battlefield"
Am I the only on thinking WTF to this one?

The game look great (graphic wise) from the video, but I doesn't look very compelling to me. Running around shooting laser and stuff. I wan't ballistic weapons! Else I would play Battlefront.
And whats the point of footmen in such a far fetched future? The unmanned flying minigun something, could just have a IR and then tear them to peices at sight. Footmen have no place on the battlefield so far into the future.

Someone before said the game didnt look very compelling, im assuming because of graphics. From looking at that game I can tell that video was shot in an Alpha. I looked like there was a little lag in some places too. I think it was a good early video to give us a good look at the game, and it did, but wait a month or two and im sure some better videos will come out. The TITAN video looked sweet. But didnt they do the "invading and destroying then enemies flag ship" in battlefront 2? Even if they did it still looked cool. I just hope it dosent turn into "Mech Wars"

After looking at the screen with all the guns on it, it got me wondering about unlocks. Will there be unlocks in 2142? I mean what could they be, more made up guns from 130 years in the future, just more powerful/accurate/uber guns of what you had before?

Ah last question. While watching the TITAN video, I saw standing auto turrets, now does anyone know if these are droped by the engineer class or something instead of AT mines? How accurate are they? I mean I can see karkand in 2142, a bunch of engineers put 5 auto turrets right infront of a spawn point like the arch infront of hotel, thats gonna cause some whoring problems I think. I also saw what looked like hovering auto turrets, are these deployed by a specific kit, then follow the person around or something?

Ok nevermind about the unlocks or hovering auto drone questions, I just found my answers.

BF2142 in-game footage

Eh... can someone please tell me how this is NOT considered a mod?

Everything looks like BF2 except for the graphics and weapons..

Even the dismount to the left of the vehicle is the same!

What makes you assume that it isn't a mod? It is essentially a total conversion, so it still runs on the bf2 engine.

Thanks for the link to those vids too, if you look close enough you can make out the BF2S names in the on screen print.

Because it is branded as a completely new game by EA? If it is a mod/total conversion, can I expect the same crappy net code and possibly even the red/blue tag to exist?...

I guess it is possible that you guys who are fortunate enough to have played it to not notice such things since it's essentially on LAN. But these are my grave concern for the BF2 engine...

Well, it is pretty much a new game. Lots of video games are all run on the same game engine, it is simply more cost effective and easier than writing one from scratch each time you want to produce a game.

Of course, being the same engine it could possibly share the same limitations and issues as previous games built upon it.

Again, I'm not sure why you would assume that we would only have played 2142 on a local network. Especially when the announcement on the top of the forums states that we were playing from EA HQ with people on the floor at E3 (not at EA HQ...) Most of the time we were pinging in the 60's.

As for seeing bugs, sure we saw plenty of bugs, because at this point the game is still very much an alpha build. EA/DICE pushed this single map demo out for E3, so that the fans would have something to look at and get excited about, it is nowhere near the finalized version of the game.

Just wait a little bit and we should have some sort of write up and video footage from our outing today.

Ah ok. Pardon me as I tot it was a demo at E3.

Yes, it's just a stupid mod!! And they want people to pay for it! EA saved their money and decided not to make a new engine. How lame

Its not a mod. Like said before yes it is obviously using the same game engine as BF2, but its obviously going to be an updated and upgraded version. I dont think we'll have to worry about the red tag bug ether. It cant be fixed by a patch, because the error is too deep in the core coding. But even though there using the same engine with the bug, they can now fix it now that they have total acess to the entire code. They know about this bug, and im confident that it will be fixed. You could call it a total conversion, but it really isnt. Like I already said yes its using the BF2 engine clearly, but its also clearly definitly not BF2. Im not thinking that im going to be paying for a modded BF2, because its not, it is a totally new game. You should be thankful they're using the BF2 engine. Its alot cheaper for them, and they can get the game out alot sooner since they dont have to create a whole new engine. Its not "lame" Nikola Bathory, its economical, smart, and common pratice.

LOL, that would be great but don't count on it.  They are gonna rush BF2142 and it will prob have more bugs than BF2.

I dont see why there would be tons of bugs. They've been using and patching this engine for quite a while, they know whats in it and what is wrong with it. Now that they can basically start a new with it, they can pound out all the known problems with it, and hopefully get rid of many of the new ones that will likely appear. No im not saying its going to be perfect. No game is perfect on launch, and never get every bug ironed out of it, thats what patches are for. But I can say with confidence that the "red tag bug" wont be an issue. How could it be with all the work they've done to get rid of it in BF2? Im sure its the first thing they fixed for 2142.

Red tag is harder to get now, you can only get it if you really try for it, so accidents are now harder
