An AutoZone worker who stopped an armed robbery by retrieving a weapon from his truck said he was fired by the company for violating their gun policy.

Devin McClean and his store manager were about to close the AutoZone in York County, Va. when a gunman barged into the store.

“He pulled a gun from his waist band and demanded me and my manager go back into the office,” McClean told Fox News.

At some point, McClean was left in a restroom while the gunman made the manager open the store safe. That’s when McClean, a 23-year-old Air Force veteran, bolted through a side door and ran to his truck.

He returned through the front door holding a Glock 40 – pointed directly at the masked robber.

“I told him to freeze and to drop his weapon,” McClean told Fox News.

Instead, the robber took off – last seen running down the street from the store.

“I watched him run down the street,” he said. “I came back inside and made sure my manager was okay and he called the police.”

Apparently people are making a big deal about this. I actually agree with the corporate policy here. The odds of actually getting shot in an armed robbery are near zero unless you provoke the guy. He wants the money, not a murder charge. Risking peoples lives by escalating it over $2,000 is retarded. The company has insurance that will cover the loss of the money
Have you ever had a gun put in your face?  Obviously you haven't.  It isn't about what percentage of a chance you have of getting shot, it's more about another man having your life at his figure tips.  Do I want this piece of shit to make the decision alone whether I live or die, or do I want the chance to say NO, you do not have the right to make that decision, I have a say in this, I say I live and YOU die.

The entire gun law argument is mute.  Bad guys will have guns whether you have no laws or guns completely banned.  The only banning guns will do is take guns out of the hands of good people and give leverage to the bad.  Go hang out with Bob Costas hippy.

Name one weapon that is as deadly in a domestic dispute as some form of gun.

The issue isn't that people are fighting, it's that when you throw a gun into the equation, you make the probability of death by one of the parties much higher.  All it takes is one little impulse and suddenly someone has done something that they really didn't want to do.
I disagree, the issue IS that people are fighting and trying to harm each other!
I won't deny that firearms are deadly.  However, grabbing a gun is about as easy as grabbing a knife from the block on your counter.
Sure that's easy, but would you rather be shot, or stabbed?  Would you rather have someone come at you with a knife or fire a gun at you?  Sure it's easy to grab a knife from the kitchen, but the average person is going to have to come close to you to kill you with a knife, and even then they have to be relatively accurate.  A bullet can pierce a skull. Is the average kitchen knife sharp enough to pierce a skull?  It's also much easier to "accidentally" shoot someone than "accidentally" stab someone.
Depends on the specifics.  A lot of stabbings involve multiple stab wounds/cuts.  One jab from a steak knife vs. 1 .45ACP +P hollowpoint?  I'd probably go for the steak knife.  Angry person within arms reach wielding a full-sized pistol vs. large knife?  That is more an all or nothing situation.  I can likely control a pistol easier than a blade (although I've put more thought into the topic than the average joe likely has), without major injury...however, if I fail either will cause major injury.

If we're talking about domestic situations, the distances involved are likely to be relatively short.  I wouldn't put big money on evading someone with a handheld weapon.  (especially if they're a professional athlete)

We aren't talking about accidents.  The realm of this particular line is domestic violence.
By anecdotal points, I've had a lot more friends injured by blades than firearms...but that  is probably because firearm handling is usually done with a lot more care.

I've had a cop point a gun at me and then watch him point a gun at car full of people who were about to leave at a party.  I don't like cops very much anymore

It's not a good feeling at all.  Just like that, one of the most corrupt members of society can send several hot chunks of metal through your bones and organs and end you on the spot if you even move wrong and there's nothing you can do about it.

I have.

meh.

I also thank G@lt for his service too.

However, I do disagree with him on the auto zone employee's situation.  Assuming a felons intent/motive is limited to a less than violent outcome is a very dangerous thing to do.  I think autozone sucks for not allowing their staff the means to adequately protect and defend themselves.

Anyways... I have to renew my CWP.  Streamlined process and 7 year renewal (up from 5 years) ... Yea!

Do all states require you to be finger printed in order to buy a gun? In NJ you have to. I don't like it.

I don't think Maryland does, unless it's for a pistol, even then I'm not sure.  Pretty sure you do for a concealed carry permit though but nobody who hasn't had a threat or their life or isn't well connected in politics can get one anyway until that Woollard case goes through and then they have to become shall issue here

An elderly man opened fire on a woman after her car came into contact with his motorized wheelchair at a central Georgia service station, authorities said Wednesday. She died shortly afterward at a hospital despite the efforts of a crowd of people to aid her.

Police said Linda Hunnicutt, 65, was driving onto the gas pump bay of the service station in Macon at about 1 p.m. Tuesday when her Buick Lucerne and the motorized wheelchair bumped. Hunnicutt stepped out of her vehicle, and the man in the motorized wheelchair pulled a handgun and fatally shot her, city police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet said.

"The whole encounter, I can tell you, was very brief," Gaudet said. "Everybody is just reeling from this."

The suspect, 73-year-old Frank Louis Reeves, was apprehended in the gas station parking lot. He made a brief court appearance Wednesday, and authorities said he was being held without bond on a murder charge at the Bibb County Jail. Gaudet did not know whether Reeves had an attorney, and jail records do not list one.

Man charged in Merrillville murder, robbery

https://cdn.abclocal.go.com/images/wls/cms_exf_2007/_video_wn_images/8572736_600x338.jpg

March 7, 2012 (MERRILLVILLE, Ind.) (WLS) -- A 20-year-old man is charged in the murder of a store clerk during a robbery at the Lucky Foods in Merrillville, Ind.

Police say Jeremy Blue fatally shot Judi Simpson-Beaver, 48, on Sunday during a robbery. Surveillance video at the Lucky Mart Foods in Merrillville shows Beaver complying with the demands of the gunman by giving him two drawers of cash. He then shot her twice- once in the chest and again in the head.

"This was a heinous crime. She did everything, she complied. This was ruthless. There was no need for him to do this. She did everything he demanded," Merrillville Police Chief Jim Lilley said.

Blue wore a hockey mask and a hooded sweatshirt during the robbery, police said. A customer who was inside the store ran out when the suspect showed his gun. Police released surveillance video from the store and 9-1-1 calls for help.

Caller: "We need an ambulance at Lucky Foods at Cleveland and 57th. Someone just robbed the store and the woman inside is bleeding."

Caller: "She's been shot. He had a gun. I see a shell casing."

Dispatch: "Did he shoot her?"

Caller: "He did. Please hurry up, she's not going to make it."

"I can't even wrap my head around it. I mean he's a coward. To shoot an unarmed woman is beyond me and to take somebody who would never do anybody harm, it just doesn't make any sense. I don't get it," Zachary Beaver, victim's son, said.

Tips and witnesses led police to Blue. Officials now hope they'll lead to the arrest of the two other men believed to have been part of the crime: one man who came inside prior to the crime and another who stood at the door.

"We are still looking for the public's help for the other two individuals. We do have a couple persons of interest," Det. Joe Cooper, Merrillville Police Department, said.

"I know the Merrillville police are just overwhelmed with how many people are calling in and giving information and it's just touching to see that the community really cares and people are out there to help out," Zachary Beaver said.

Beaver had moved to Merrillville from Texas to help care for her grandson. Both of her sons served in the military; her youngest is on his way back from Afghanistan after learning of his mother's death.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Merrillville Police Department at 219-769-3531.

A black guy killed a white woman in a robbery? I wonder what Jessy Jackson or Al Sharpton think of this. Too bad we will never know because the media doesn't like making stories like this into national news. But a hoodlum getting shot on the street by a neighborhood watch makes international headlines.

Sen. Trotter reveals hypocrisy of anti-gunners, gun rights group says

BELLEVUE, WA – Today’s arrest of Illinois State Sen. Donne Trotter by authorities at O’Hare International Airport for having a gun in his carry-on bag is a revealing look at the hypocrisy of anti-gunners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Trotter was arrested at a security checkpoint early this morning. A candidate for the 2nd Congressional District seat vacated recently by Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., Trotter had a .25-caliber Beretta semiautomatic pistol in his bag. The Chicago Tribune said Trotter told police he worked late last night as a security guard and didn’t realize the pistol was in his bag.

“Trotter is a South Side Democrat and he was a leader in the move to ban so-called ‘assault weapons’ during his first term as a state representative,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “A man who favored banning firearms for thousands of his fellow Illinois residents shouldn’t even have a gun, much less be packing one illegally into an airport.”

Trotter has reportedly been charged with one count of attempting to board an airplane with a weapon, which is a Class 4 felony.

“Senator Trotter, by his own action, has demonstrated the monumental hypocrisy of gun control advocates who try to disarm average citizens while reserving the right to bear arms for themselves alone,” Gottlieb observed. “He should not even be serving in the state legislature, much less be running for a seat in Congress, which already has its share of gun prohibition hypocrites.

“Today’s incident underscores just how pathetic the anti-gun philosophy has gotten,” he concluded. “Perhaps now he will realize how other citizens feel when they run afoul of some anti-gun law or regulation. He should apologize to every gun owner in Illinois.”

In my opinion the reaction and comments on the article show more about the knee-jerk retardedness of the pro-gun lobby.  Senator calls for ban of asault weapons?  Must mean he is anti-gun and a hypocrite for carrying a semi-automatic pistol!  The failure to rationally separate potential issues related to assault weapons from being "anti-gun" is what makes me generally laugh at pro-gun people, and makes me think they are stupid.

Would you laugh if someone called a semi-auto beretta an assault weapon?  Then why call this guy a hypocrite?  Don't be stupid.

What about the law-abiding, respectful gun-toting citizens who still carry into establishments with anti-gun rules? Besides which, wasn't he for banning "assault weapons?" I don't think a semi-auto pistol counts. Error 404: hypocrisy not found.
