just because some dude on a train yelled at you in Osaka doesn't mean the world hates America.  When I was riding the subway in Tokyo people were looking at me like I was from another planet.
I lived it. Lived the American there. I know that feeling. Some of my friends who really were inspired by me stopped pitying themselves and are becoming chefs because they met me. Now I'm so authentically Japanese in their eyes they want me to come back to Japan.

I have no reason to as America is a wonderful country. Land of opportunity. Truly.

Not medical, recreational. My guess is it won't impact him either way

Pretty sure I didn't say that.

If it was in fact a draw between Ryan and Biden I think it would be the first time I've ever seen a debate declared a draw.

FEOS, gun to your head, if you had to say who won the debate who would you pick?

It's not like you were ever giving Ryan a chance anyway.

I'm not saying you are biased.

But you are biased.

Biased*

No I probably didn't give Ryan much of a chance, he's never really impressed me. He lived up to my expectations.

Senate hopeful Thompson's son says send Obama back to Kenya

https://i.imgur.com/ARabH.jpg

This is why the GOP can round up the votes of people who will vote against their own interest. the rednecks eat this shit up, and there is no respect for the office of President of the United States of America. The "most powerful man in the world" can't get a jobs bill passed in congress, and even though democrats have 53 of the hundred seats in the senate, the republicants filibuster any measure that might be perceived as helping the president.

And this is unique how, exactly? This is the first time the opposition party has *gasp* opposed the White House? Do you seriously think that?

I would still say it was a draw. I didn't see a clear winner, either way. Both made points, both flubbed. I thought Biden acted like a douche, but that had nothing to do with his positions on issues or how he explained them. I thought Ryan came off as wound a little tight, but again, had nothing to do with his positions or how he explained them.

Ryan.

There was no substance at all. Eg, what loopholes the GOP hope to close with their tax plan.

I quite liked John McCain, my only fear was that he'd die in office. There was a younger bloke I thought was good too but I can't think of his name.

I remember when you liked me.

Oh come on FEOS I'm sure you can pick a winner, stop trying to be so diplomatic. So Biden was abusive and smug while Ryan was stiff and repressed but who do you think either made the most sense in their arguments or managed to sway more undecided voters?

you see Ty, either FEOS is being obtuse (which i doubt) or he's deliberately not being honest, and here is how you can tell-

I may be older than FEOS, but not by much, and can tell you that every other president in memory has been able to govern with the opposite party.

The government shut downs during Clintons years? even he and newt gingrich reached a compromise and a balanced budget. Nixon and tip o'neill couldn't be more different, but were able to pass legislation. George W. Bush? was able to get democratic support for his adventure into Iraq.

so either FEOS is confusing obstructionism with opposition, or he is willingly being stolid about the hyper partisanship that exists today.

The obstructionism was the reason the US credit rating was downgraded.

I don't know how anyone could think it doesn't exist or has been that way before.

Nice to know your memory only really starts in 08. Or--more accurately--decides to skip 2001-2008, particularly 2004-2008. Nope. No hyper-partisan, fight the President at all costs bullshit then. None at all.

Foreign policy is normally supported in a bipartisan manner. Yes, there is posturing and teeth-knashing (remember that the Iraq thing was not all hunky-dory, but passed), but Congress generally supports the POTUS during his handling of international crises, for fear of appearing unpatriotic or unsupportive of the troops--both of which are bullshit.

So...even though I've said both candidates (that would be from both parties...we'll get back to that in a minute) made their points clearly and didn't either hurt or help the top of their respective tickets...I'm being partisan? Do you even know what partisan means? It would appear not.

If I was being partisan (this is where we get back to the party thing from above, btw), I would've blindly said one or the other mopped the floor with the other guy. But that's not what happened. I may agree with the policies of one over the other, but that doesn't mean I have to give them more credit than they earned during their debate performance. How frightfully partisan of me! I think both parties' candidates did equally well! Dear God! I'm a raving right-wing gun nut who won't give Democrats credit for anything! Except performing as well as the other guy in a debate, of course.

Because I gave Biden equal praise to Ryan. Yep. Ridiculously partisan.
