40 hours a week of teaching? really? over here our top-level academics teach for about 8-10 hours a week. the rest is fulltime research. and my point about a pog-college is that it's a military school for people leeching off the state, not a bastion of academic excellence.
You assume that you are going to jump straight from graduating into a top-level academic role teaching only 8-10 hours a week and spending the rest researching? You really are an entitled prick if you think that. Would you expect to become instant upper-level management at a bank too? Jesus christ kid.
you called my academics lazy. you said i had been brainwashed by academics that were lazy people. where am i talking about myself? i'm prepared to do the mule-work to get to the point in the career-path that they are at, i.e. the absolute top. i.e. displaying excellence. i.e. not lazy.

What exactly would an English professor's research entail? I would like to know. And no, I'm not trying to degrade English professors or anything like that, I just want to know the kind of stuff that they would be researching.

dsl, they look in libraries that not many people have been to in order to find old books that nobody has discovered. jay already ascertained this in a discussion a long time ago. occasionally they say something pretentious. mostly they are incredibly lazy.

That's fine. None of us are telling you that you're wrong for making that choice. We're telling uzique he's an entitled asshat because he expects the taxpayer to support him for the rest of his life regardless of his RoI.

gay, lazy, useless, they are people of many talents... in the admiring eyes of the science grad, anyway.

funny that it's never the other way around with arts/humanities students belittling science and maths types. i guess our wider-reading educations equip us with a respect and awareness of life's wider intellectual limits. you science types seem to be inculcated with the ideological belief that you are the TRUE TRUTH SEEKERS and are singularly equipped to do GOD'S WORK, elevated above all other MERE MORTALS on the campus. i guess science departments are full of insecure socially stunted people telling each other this. like one big circle jerk of protractor-equipped affirmation. you go, guys. everyone else is more stupid and lazy than you. that's exactly it.

and in the rest of the above quote, you proceed to belittle science and math types...

Uzique, if you can make an honest living in the arts/humanities, more power to you.  Have fun.
There is an (apparently) limited demand for people with those qualifications, so I truly hope you're an exceptional exemplar of your field.

Jay, I don't pretend to 'know' anybody on the internet. We're all disassociated with our usual selves because this place isn't serious. Perhaps the question should be "what do I know about your persona." But even this is a worthless question, because my opinion of you should not change how you conduct yourself, right? My opinion of you is so easily countered over the internet because you can pretend to be whoever you want.

I take you on a post-by-post basis.

I dropped chemical engineering to pursue a MA in conflict studies.

Drawing blueprints of oil refineries & water purification plants + adding calculations for every step in the system, analytical chemistry & quantum chemistry did not make me happy.
