Jay you don't remove competition when you have the government in health. Look at Australia's medicare system, it has good enough coverage for more emergency needs (surgeries and what not) but costs for optional shit you gotta pay yourself or receive government assistance based on income. Private insurance companies make a lot of money in Aussie and is very profitable. Shit 50% of Australians buy an additional set of private insurance, and doctors can choose to work for the gov, or go private. Under medicare, patients get covered 75% if its a private doctor or hospital, but if its public its 100% covered.
You do know the government heavily subsidises private health care to make it a lot more affordable so the public system isn't overloaded. They do the same with private schools, private 'public' transport and roads. They are effectively paying the competition to force themselves out of business. Works well.

there's enough coverage in the public systems anyway. private insurance is just icing on the top for other shit. I pay 66 dollars a month lol.

For emergency or life saving procedures there is, but for elective and long term care there's not nearly enough.

It's cool that you're ok with someone else paying your bills for you. You bash Keynesian interventionist economics and then you go and brag about your socialist health care. Which is it?

Really, how is a taxpayer funded health system any different from an employer funded health system? You're stealing from your corporations via taxes in order to fund your system, we just cut out the government middleman (or did).

Btw, I thought when I moved into this place that it was Rent Controlled. Turns out Rent Control ended in 1971 and everything is now Rent Stabilized. This just means that my rent can only be increased by whatever some group of bureaucrats decides is acceptable. So instead of living in a place where my landlord/lady feels bad about asking for more rent, I got a letter from my landlady informing me that I could accept the city dictated 3.7% increase in my rent or gtfo. Did we have 3.7% inflation last year? Fuck no.

Did I create the system? No. Would I be a fool to throw away an opportunity to save money? Yes. Would I cry if the whole system went away tomorrow? No. Seriously guy, your act got old years ago. Go ride a bike or punch yourself in the dick or something please.

Yeah, because I'm really benefiting by living in an apartment that sees annual rent increases of 3.7%. Moron.

You'd be benefiting if you're paying less than a market rent, isn't that the point of rent control, socialised housing for the poor funded by the rich?

Go cry yourself to sleep in your socialised housing now.

Same shit with insurance companies, they collect funds and put it in a big pool and collectively pay off other people's medical bill. In the case with governments, everyone has to do it. Not exactly getting someone else paying for all my bills, everybody is paying into it.

The medicare levy we have in Australia is only 1% of our tax payments, there's an additional 1.5% if you don't have private insurance, but either way its still vastly cheaper than what you have in America. It just means our country won't end up bankrupt due to medicare/medicaid and the retarded bureaucratic hassle to get either programs to prove your eligible, since every citizen who has been a resident over 2 years can receive medicare here. It works pretty well here jay, but that's more to do with having a 23 million pop + high avg income (69k a year lel).

As for the US system, its better off being done at a state level, not a federal level due to bureaucratic overhead. let the states themselves decide reciprocal health agreements.

No. Fuck that. Keep government out of the health system completely. State or federal, fuck 'em both.

That would be perfect if only health care were a marketable commodity, but it isn't.

There's no demand Bell curve. You don't say I'll pay 50 thousand for my cancer treatment and not a cent more cause that's what the rest of the market pays. The demand for healthcare is infinite and everyone gets sick barring an incredibly sudden death.

Or you can fly to places like Taiwan which has cheaper medical fees due to low cost of living/salaries, but high quality

Our system works just fine for everyone with a job. Do you really think that people going bankrupt over medical bills is the norm? Please. Obama trotted out a bunch of outliers when he was pushing Obamacare. They are the extreme exception. Poor people qualify for Medicaid. If you're not poor, and you don't have health coverage, it's your own fucking fault for not making it a priority.

Insurance companies make a profit, yes? They make a profit on ~$300 per person/per month. $3600 per year. So save $5000 a year (nice little 40% buffer) for medical care and you magically don't need health insurance. Amazing. It really is that simple, and inexpensive.
