I'm surprised this post has been glossed over as it's probably the most intelligent one in the thread.HITNRUNXX wrote:

That is such a bizarre concept... Them marching in here to overthrow our government that we don't approve of right now, and oust our leaders that we don't approve of right now, and impose their government on us... And then I bet they would be shocked when we fought back instead of just accepting their obviously better system. You know, like what we do, only in reverse.

Uhh...
While in theory it's nice to think that, in reality the Afghan "government" before we overthrew them weren't the nicest people in the world. In fact they were known for their misogynistic ideals and hatred of those who didn't believe in them, whoever it may be. It wasn't until their biggest (?) ally and beneficiary attacked us that we (the US) had decided we'd had enough.
It wasn't just somebody who had a different idea of who "god" was than us. (Though one could make the statement that ultimately it was, but that's for another thread)

So there is no-where in Afghanistan to hold him.
Thats odd, I'm sure he would have been fine chained to the ceiling at Bagram airbase.

Fuck Israel
The guy is crazy. I don't know what his punishment should be. Should he maybe be discharged, then put on an anklet and give him a certain mile limit and he would have to go to therapy until he's "Sane" or whatever they can figure out for him.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.
He killed 16 people. Fuck him, fuck his second chance. I agree with rehabilitation but 16 lives ended, 9 of them children. You gotta draw a line somewhere. Give him to whoever wants him. Leave him in that neighborhood tied up... But an anklet and rehab, that's a bit much.-Sh1fty- wrote:

I think that he snapped because he was to weak to deal with the situation he was in. Maybe he'd seen some things he couldn't handle and he blew his top. That's why I think he's mentally sick and not morally sick.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.
Who cares what kind of sick he is. 16 people are dead cause he decided they should be.
yeah...
I agree with you, I just feel bad for what he's had to go through to reach that level of crazy

What about what the families of the people who, well don't have families anymore. Maybe you can rehab from a couple killings, I don't know. At some point you have traded to much of the value of your own life away to be worth saving. I can tell you that point, for me at least is well before you reach the double digits.
yeah it's all very tragic
I find it hilarious that the Taliban are condemning him. Good one chief...it's not like ya'll don't kill more civies than the U.S. has in the whole 10 year war in two countries, not even counting mutilation.

His wife broke up with him or something, reportedly. That and he was a sniper. I dont think anyone is right to judge. When you join the military, shit happens. Its as simple as that. It has nothing to do with being "weak".-Sh1fty- wrote:

Well, why do some people from a same group snap while the rest don't? Weak is probably the wrong definition for, "incapable of living with the situation at hand and not changing one's mental state negatively."
I donno, it's a complex subject I'd love to learn more about.

Some people are born into a fucked up life, that they don't even a choice to be in, if they freak out and kill 16 people, do you say "shit happens"? Someone joins the military of their own accord and can't handle it in the end. "Fack, whatever, he saw some shit, so whateves..."Spearhead wrote:

Nothing excuses murder. No questions there. That said, I have faith that the UCMJ process can handle this, if conducted as designed.
As to Shifty's point, it is not like the Taliban are the guys wearing the white cowboy hat. They do brutal things to innocent people to ensure compliance from those around. If you can't see that, you are denying reality.
The Taliban killed more civilians than died in Iraq?RAIMIUS wrote:

I don't think so.
The UCMJ can 'handle' this?
A US serviceman who has already admitted killing a large number of civilian women and children is already being 'handled' very differently from the average Afghan suspected of planning to kill soldiers.
No waterboarding, no sleep deprivation, no being frozen, starved, hung from a hook in chains.
Nossir, a flight home, access to a lawyer and his identity protected - thats some 'handling'.
Why not stick him in Bagram for a few years and see what else he'll admit to?
Or give him to the Egyptians, they'll get something out of him.
Or just give him to the Afghans, we've been there ten years, surely they have a functioning judicial system up and running?

Almost 17,000 Americans were killed by other Americans last year. So I guess that makes the World Trade Center ok, because that was less than 3,000 people.
Pointless murder is pointless murder. It doesn't matter where you live.
And yeah, I understand that they are supposed to be the "bad guys" and we are supposed to be the "good guys" but that actually makes it even worse. You expect the evil people to kill kids. You expect the good guys to save them.

What was wrong with my attitude? We have one crazy kill 16 people and the whole U.S. military is comprised of evil child murderers. Most Americans have no clue what the "bad guys" do over there, and most of it is just religious shit. How about that famous girl who had her nose and ears cut off for running away from her abusive husband?HITNRUNXX wrote:

I don't get your point about the 17,000 Americans, well I don't get it in context to what I was saying.
