Don't forget to read the instructions properly this time around Commie Killer
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
Skipped it. I can reuse my old one if I want to.FloppY_ wrote:
I don't really see why... Most good motherboards already come with decent onboard soundcards....Commie Killer wrote:
Should I get a sound card? I know I noticed a big different between hardware and software...

Will do lol.SonderKommando wrote:

Yes.
Oh. That would've been easier...
Will do.SEREMAKER wrote:

Always had nVidia, stupid I know but its how I am. I'm gonna swap out the mobo for a Z68, got a question first. What kind of PCI port is my old Xfi Sound card (assuming I decide to put it in).Little BaBy JESUS wrote:
Personally, I would get a 2GB HD6950, but that's personal preference. You'd also be better off with a Z68 motherboard like the one I posted, rather than the P67 one.
Also, why 2 copies of Windows 7?
I dunno if bf3 will run on an i3 as well as it's running on your q-ninety-whatever. It's multithreaded mind?Finray wrote:
Mind if I hijack your thread a wee bit? No? Okay thanks
I'm thinking about for xmas getting an i3 + suitable mobo + perhaps 1x4GB ram, 2 if it's cheap enough. Really want to keep this low price, hence the i3 over the i5. I know it's not the best, but I could upgrade to an i5 later (right? I haven't looked at this shit in months). Think that's doable with, I dunno, £250? I've got a good enough PSU, shit case but it works and a 5770 (which I'll prolly be upgrading anyway).
you're re-using an old psu?
I could save you 100 bucks and get you a download for Windows 7 that'd be fully activated and updates. Just gimme a PM.
Shit you're right, I forgot they were dualcore w/ hyperthreading. I'll check out some benchmarks.Camm wrote:

Yeah the higher end i3s are hyperthreadedFinray wrote:

No. So I'm gonna ditch the heatsink and thermal paste. (theres one worry gone)TopHat01 wrote:
Are you going overclock the CPU? No need for an aftermarket heatsink and extra thermal paste if you're not going to.
Did not know it was a problem. I'll buy another PSU, and in that case, I'll spend the bucks on another case. Fuck, and probably a monitor.
So go back to the old mobo?SonderKommando wrote:
He probably doesnt need a Z68 if he's not overclocking or going to use Intel Smart Response SSD caching. OTherwise the P6T should be fine. Your sound card is most likely a PCI bus device. There are some PCIEx1 cards out there but if yours is a legacy xfi its most likely pci.
True, except that the Z68 I posted and the P67 he posted are the same price. Why not go for the Z68? Leaves more options open for the future.SonderKommando wrote:

Great point. If its the same price get the Z68.Little BaBy JESUS wrote:

Buy a modular PSU.. it's slightly more expensive but well worth it since you have all the cables you need and none you don'tCommie Killer wrote:
No need for extra power or connecting cables right? I can't remember if they all come with the equipment.
slightly? fuck no. a damn sight dearerFloppY_ wrote:

I'm not saying YOU MUST GET A NEW PSU... I mean, if you think your's will last then hang on to it, but IMO, I wouldn't be putting an old psu together with new tech. What does everyone else think?Commie Killer wrote:

This. 2011 was just around the corner when I built my 2600K PC in Aug '11. I can tell you it wasn't worth missing out just to wait for the greatest thing ever.jsnipy wrote:
