Unfortunately it seems the timid sensibilities won the day and "Wellington - Blown Away" by the ad agency Saatchi and Saatchi will be put on the hill proving that the airport probably should employ people who know what they're doing before making stupid suggestions.
The results are as follows:
Wellington - Blown Away: 18,862 Eye of the Taniwha Whataitai: 11,061 Wellywood: 3,104
So while A BIG FUCKING SCARY EYE unfortunately did not leer its way to victory at least the Wellington International Airport was shown up as the tasteless hacks they are. I'd say that's at least a moral victory.
That's true whatever they put up there. After landing at Wellington Airport in a crosswind you'd probably get the reference though, it can get pretty violent with that wind.
