That's only half-truth. American "black history" is American history. This doesn't make it non-existent; only one part of a whole. The special attention it gets is what bothers me when much of it could be incorporated into regular history.lowing wrote:

I think the message has long since outgrown the man's personal habits. I don't begrudge him a statue, but I doubt he'd have approved of this farce.
Too bad he's been hijacked by the political left as a bludgeon. I grew to resent the mandatory black history month at school, not because I thought it was all invalid, but because I was tired of the "white people did this; even if you didn't do any of it, don't you feel horrible now?" message.
and taxes, don't forget those
Who cares that it was built by Chinese people or designed by a Chinese artist or that the King family got paid? Workers got exploited, and it's another instance of government mismanagement of money. There's so many other incidents of monetary indiscretion, mismanagement of funds, graft, corruption and cronyism in the government and you choose an $800k statue built using the classic American technique of importing and exploiting immigrants to bitch about?
Oh yeah, and the statue IS ugly.

Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
Let's be real here. For over one hundred years after slavery ended, white people, especially in the south, but also in places like NYC, attempted to marginalize black people and exclude them from white society. It's why there was segregation, and Jim Crow laws, and laws against mixed marriages. Now, after being forced to live apart and develop their own culture over that one hundred year period, you expect them to suddenly integrate within a single lifespan? Please. Fifty years ago it didn't matter how 'white' they acted or how hard they tried to integrate, it just wasn't going to happen. So kindly step off with your 'one nation' bullshit rhetoric.lowing wrote:

Needs moar Robocop statue.
I guess you missed the part where I said one history the good the bad and the ugly. Regardless, like it or not, theres is only one American history. and the path of that history has lead us to where we are today as a nation, (for better or worse)Jay wrote:

Yeah Jay, I have to admit, your emotions clouded your reading comprehension on that one. Sorry.
I get what lowing is saying. Kind alike people who started new bf2 accounts so their KDR would look higher. It's not an honest history.

I happen to agree that creating something like Black History Month does more to separate us than unite us. It entrenches the differences between us instead of finding common ground. It is no less racist than segregation was imo.

You do not have the privilege of cherry picking through history. It is all interwoven and can not be separated to suit your need to singularly recognize bits and pieces of it. It is American history period. THAT is the reality.Jay wrote:
