You should watch the National Geographic doc called Inside North Korea. It's kind of eye opening.

Is that the one where they provided eye surgery?

That was weird, especially the way they thanked Kim's portrait for giving them their eyesight back.

Yeah, each family thanked the glorious leader in a different way. Some doing chants, some had songs, some made speaches, and some just bowed and prayed to a picture of Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung. 1000 families from different walks of life had this simple eye procedure done to remove cataracts. No one thanked the doctors, they all though it was the will of the glorious leader.

Yeah, and they had that old guy who said the first thing he wanted to do with his new eyesight was pick up a gun and shoot some Americans.

While I'm sure that happens there's also a lot of people in the country that don't agree with the things are going. Difference is that they get sent to concentration camps. If you obey and praise Kim, especially in front of a camera, you got nothing to fear.

So put yourself in that situation, would rather go to a concentration camp, try to escape and risk getting shot, or praise the glorious leader and live a mediocre existence.

Right, like if we had let Patton invade the Soviet Union when they outmanned us at least 5 to 1 (figuratively)?  After one of the most powerful and inhuman civilizations designed from the ground up to accomplish nothing but military domination could not defeat them, even when they were within the city limits of Moscow?

How about MacArthur.  Nuking mainlaind China because of a proxy war in Korea?

Dude you've got your head stuck in the sand.  Let the military kill and dominate, thats what they do and they do it well, but to hero worship generals who've never seen real combat and get credit for the sacrifices of others is just plain ignorant.  You seem pretty "patriotic" and you should know that the one thing that sets us apart from other great world powers in recent history is that despite all the fucked up stuff we had to do, we at least maintained civilian control over the military.  Which, according to a prominent minority, is up to debate.
good points, very good points. I had no idea Patton was crazy, I knew MacArthur was a loon though. I wonder if the US even needed to take the Philippines in WW2.

I would think in a real war the carrier would have lots of scouting planes beyond the carrier's radar range, and if a a few hundred Exocets were going to be launched then the planes bringing them would be a nice target for the carrier's aircraft, and then the dozens that might get through should be pretty easy for (how many ships were in that photo above?) the fleet to eliminate with phalanxs.

and ONE nuke is easier to stop than hundreds of Exocets IIRC.

However, the subs remain an issue. How detectable are they? and did the Navy let that sub pop up or did they not see it coming?
It doesn't matter how wrong Sh1fty is, when China has these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-ship_ … ic_missile

The Navy is still the only way to realistically deliver a fighting force to most parts of the world.
Which they are developing atm. Once they have those and US has F35's, good luck getting within range to attack mainland china.
What about destroying those ballistic missiles before the carriers get within range? We've got those X37s or whatever that can go through space and deploy weapons, and that new vehicle that can go mach 20 or something. I'm just saying there are ways to eliminate the anti-ship missile before risking carriers.

you do realize why the new anti-ship ballistic missile is a huge threat right? and the fact that there are treaties which the US signed to not weaponize space right?

I must have misunderstood the purposes of those two aircraft then.

Yeah, because it can blow ships out of the water from really far away. I'm sure there's a counter somewhere. What about those Patriot missiles that blew scuds out of the air? How about getting a system like that to blow up a ship missile?

No one wants to argue with you about missile systems in aircraft carrier groups that you will never step foot on. No one wants to read your pontifications on US strategy. You have no experience, and you never will.

So you don't think the AMB program will be useful in stopping this or the Block 4 missiles? I guess the U.S. Navy doesn't know what the hell they're doing. Maybe they should ask you, Jay, since you seem to know exactly when something will or won't work.

You also don't think the fact the US can spot this thing when it launches, and move carriers out of the way? It's not easy for something traveling at Mach 10 to just turn on a dime, not to mention it's navigational equipment is about as useful as a Garmin.

But hey. BMD and AMB are probably shit right? Because shifty the arm chair general who does no research mentioned it.

Nothing wrong with me trying to learn a little,  [mod:  mild flame removed].

I really don't understand why you have this sudden inclination to make this place all sunshine and rainbows and lets be friends. It's DST, chuy has always been a lot more lax in this section and so have the mods. It's been on the same course for years and has continued just fine. If you're trying to make the forum friendlier for some hypothesized massive influx of new members for bf3 then I can kinda, sorta understand your reasoning. However leave DST alone, it's always been a place of "if you can't handle the heat then get of the kitchen". If people are wrong, consistently then they're going to attract a lot of flak, and rightfully so. That's how people get smarter, they take what they've been handed, learn from it, shut the fuck up for a while and become better posters. Lowing has taken more heat than anyone over the years and he's still here, I don't understand why just because warman and shifty have wondered into the section more and more the rule enforcement has to get stricter and stricter to protect them. People need to be put down here, because if they aren't and they spout their drivel in real life it's going to have bigger consequences for them than getting flamed by people over the Internet that they will never meet.

I should know, I came on this site when I was 15 spouting my ill informed, regurgitated, spoon-fed "opinions". I learned, they can too. I realize this is off topic so if you want to offer an answer in another thread that's fine.

I would think a fleet of Phalanx AEGIS could pour enough lead into the sky to stop it.

Oh well, but the Pacific fleet commander said they're not as capable as they want to be. He didn't say they couldn't, but I guess it's to be interpreted as the same.
