Exactly. That Pacifica is awesome. I understand the newer ones got a lot worse in quality (Japan probably outsourced them to China... LOL). But yeah, all the Fender guys (myself included) regret paying so much more for a name brand, just for the sake of owning one.

Depends on the product really.

I hate hearing the buy America tag line used as a guilt trip.

The Japanese have really worked out quality manufacture, it wasn't like that to begin with.

They make functional, reliable products, with quality in just the right places.

Which is when the Japanese started getting to grips with quality, look at Yamaha instruments for example.

Fender didn't start making guitars outside of the US until they opened the Squier line in 1982.

really? i stand corrected. my point was that they are quite old, anyway, i assumed from dilbert's post that he was talking about modern stuff.

I do agree with you about the Japanese fenders being high quality. I had a Japanese jazz bass that was amazing and cost half as much as it's US cousin. At this point in time the US Fenders and other high dollar US guitars like Gibson, Martin, Taylor etc. etc. are being purchased mostly by a type of musician I call the "Blues Lawyer." An older guy usually wearing a fedora and a Hawaiian shirt. He has too much money and a midlife crisis. The guitar ends up spending more time in a fancy glass case than it does being played.

haha yes, yes and yes. i did some research into my tele (i wanted the best for my money) and the japanese ones, though rare, really seem worth the extra effort. excellent build-quality and action/play, and pretty affordable, too. mind you anything with the 'american' fender stamp on it (i.e. above squier or budget guitar level) is going to be of-a-certain-quality, anyway...

amazing though if you have some older Levis that are made in US, then you could potentially sell them for a hundred or several hundred

i think jeans were better everywhere like 20-30 years ago. levis are a very good example. they're still pretty quality, though. i have 2-3 pairs that i've worn like weekly for 3 years or so now and still no signs of wear and tear... only slight fading on the dark denim ones. but clothing and textiles is hardly an industry that keeps afloat an advanced superpower nowadays... alas, it is no longer 1900.

came across a box in the basement about a year ago with some Levis from '50s ...... the business made some serious cash on just a hand full of jeans

I've got a pair of 501s from the '40s framed on the wall in the office

Hey, thought about this thread over the weekend...

I got an NFL Jersey as a Christmas gift. It came from an online site out of China... My buddy bought himself one here.

Mine was $20 after shipping. He paid over $100 after tax.

Two years later and mine looks brand new still. His is faded and getting threadbare in spots.

I don't know how licensing works for those places, but I would buy me another one from China before I bought one here.
