But Macbeth, why do some Cubans need to fuck off and die? Good question.
Soon after taking office, President Barack Obama eased the family travel restrictions to pre-Bush administration levels. He has also issued regulations encouraging travel opportunities for religious, cultural and educational groups. Pure tourist travel is still prohibited under the U.S. trade embargo imposed on Cuba decades ago.

But two Republican Cuban-American congressmen from Miami-area districts are sponsoring measures to roll back the Obama changes, highlighting the division between those who left Cuba long ago and those who arrived more recently and still have ties to the Caribbean nation.

Last week, the Republican-led House Foreign Affairs Committee approved a sweeping bill targeting a Cuba travel and remittances. Republicans and Democrats on the panel backed the move pushed by Rep. David Rivera, R-Fla.

But that doesn't explain why some Cubans need to fuck off and die...

It does though! A lot of Cubans settled in south Florida as a result of the Castro regime taking power. The first wave right before and after were mostly wealthy and educated capitalist types. That group formed the backbone of the Cuban community in South Florida. Cubans are now a powerful voting block in Florida. My point, you ask? I'm getting to it! In about every presidential election in the U.S., Florida is a pretty important state because of how often it swings back and fourth between democrat and republican as well as it's high number of electoral votes. Because of the Cuban voting block though any suggestion of ending the embargo on Cuba is instantly dismissed by both parties due not wanting to upset the block which is instrumental in capturing Florida. Trust me, I'm getting to the point.

The point is- we shouldn't allow a small  group of people in Florida prevent us from opening up a new 11 million people strong market south of our watery border. A new place to sell our shit to would definitely help our economy and maybe even get some people off of unemployment in this country. It would also raise the standard of living in Cuba.

Everybody Wins \o/

But, Macbeth, the Castro regime is terrible and does bad stuff to people!!

Yeah, they do but we, Americans, Euros, and even Aussies, do all sorts of trade with horrible countries like China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc. We shouldn't arbitrarily decide not to do trade with little ole Cuba because they took the wrong side in a war that ended 20 odd years ago.

I say we end the embargo and welcome in an era of free trade between Cuba and the West.

If they want to vote in a block on the issue that's their right. A lot of them lost everything (including family members) when Castro took power. They have every right to be bitter. If Cuba wasn't so poor and insignificant, trade would've been opened up  already. If you feel like visiting Cuba, fly to Canada first.

The worst things happening on the island is on American soil. The country is in it's shit economical state because of the embargo, and not because it's communist. Without E.g. Soviet assistance Cuba would've been even more fucked. Give me a good example of "bad stuff to people" and "being terrible" and I'll give you tenfold in return on what your country has done. Many, most if not all of the "terrible" things that happen in Cuba are directly or indirectly linked to the embargo.

That's an original thought. Only the rest of the world have been saying that since 1960.

So yeah, end the embargo. Now.

But shut up about the "fuck off and die"-shit. DAST doesn't need titles like that.

Oh, and about taking sides: Communism to the U.S. in the Cold War was, well you know what it was. So there aren't many options in taking sides if you wish to uphold your politics. Fuck, Finland had to team up with Nazi Germany during WWII because the Allied were in bed with the Soviets. The other choice would've been to become a part of the Soviet Union. Thanks.

It also doesn't need moderators shoving communist propaganda down our throats in an extremely hostile manner.

I shoved that bitch my propaganda. Bitches fucking love propaganda.

But if I were a member, I could? The thread title is hostile, and you're accusing me of hostility? So all opinions according to you are correct, except the ones you disagree with?

I'm making conversation here. I'm not telling anyone to fuck off and die. The OP is.

From the Hurricat.

Hurricane wrote:

Winston, the Russians are probably the most palatable of those three. The Chinese regularly violate human rights and have awful living conditions for anyone who's not in the middle class. The Saudis don't let women drive, make it illegal to be raped, and are generally just as awful as any other Middle Eastern regime.

Who knows, maybe Ali Baba the falafel shop owner or Chang Ping the laundromat owner are good people, but their governments certainly are not.

Anyway I completely agree with you Mac. The only other option is to eject Florida from the US (sorry Kmar).

You blamed America for Cuba being poor instead of its kleptocratic communist government. You also stated that guantanimo bay is the worst place on the island. You are clearly ignorant.

The Cuban government has been accused of numerous human rights abuses including torture, arbitrary imprisonment, unfair trials, and extrajudicial executions (also known as "El Paredón"). [94][95] The Human Rights Watch alleges that the government "represses nearly all forms of political dissent" and that "Cubans are systematically denied basic rights to free expression, association, assembly, privacy, movement, and due process of law". [96] Cuba had the second-highest number of imprisoned journalists of any nation in 2008 (the People's Republic of China had the highest) according to various sources, including the Committee to Protectournalists (CPJ), an international NGO, and Human Rights Watch. [97][98] As a result of ownership restrictions, computer ownership rates are among the world's lowest. [99] The right to use the Internet is granted only to selected locations and they may be monitored. [100][99] Connecting to the Internet illegally can lead to a five-year prison sentence. [citation needed] Cuban dissidents who commit crimes face arrest and imprisonment. In the 1990s, Human Rights Watch reported that Cuba's extensive prison system, one of the largest in Latin America, consists of some 40 maximum-security prisons, 30 minimum-security prisons, and over 200 work camps. [101] According to Human Rights Watch, political prisoners, along with the rest of Cuba's prison population, are confined to jails with substandard and unhealthy conditions. [101] Citizens cannot leave or return to Cuba without first obtaining official permission in addition to their passport and the visa requirements of their destination. [96]
