Thats more thorough than my background check.
mostly every employer nowadays will check your online identity... officially or not... all it takes is a google check of your full name nowadays: facebook, twitter, tumblr, last.fm, linkedin, and anything else you're registered on... they're obviously going to use it when it's an easy way of determining character and of seeing whether or not somebody will 'fit in' to an organisation. when we graduated we were all advised very sternly by our academic staff to "reconsider our online identities", basically meaning 'get rid of those 3 years of drunken photos, clean up your gossip twitter feeds and start to present yourself as an actual adult'.

makes sense.
On paper, someone can seem like the perfect employee and everyone can act like it in an interview.
But almost nobody tries to cover up their life online.

privacy is non-existent nowadays so to be career-minded it basically means you have to present yourself online with a brand identity.

a lot of my ambitious friends from university even have shit like 'the views expressed on this profile do not represent those i work for' on their facebook profiles. rofl. as if some shitty status you make about the weather today is going to incriminate some fine, upstanding company! it's almost sad how desperate the work-place environment is nowadays. serious cornhole sucking.

Social networks (or online identity in general) have made it very hard to keep your professional life separate from you personal life.

I always hear this, but short of trying to add me they can't actually see anything I post right? Assuming I'm not a dumbass and have my account open for the world to view.

a lot of your wall posts and stuff are viewable by non-friends, either through friends-of-friends or networks (and networks are very large and vague, sometimes).

I think to a certain degree, bitching about privacy when using a social network is useless. People seeing pictures of you and all that is one of the risks you take when putting them online.
But i dont think its fair that companies take advantage of that, but lets be honest here, why wouldnt they? They can see what kind of person you are because youre whole identity is on the internet (mainly social network sites)

Evening shifts are the best. Less customers bothering you, the work is more fun and the i know the other coworkers that do the evening hifts well.
Too bad they only gave me a 12 hour contract. If the cops wont hire me the first time im going to have to bitch for more hours or find another job that does offer me more.

Hmmm, fair enough I'll watch out for that. I figure my name is generic enough that there's a lot of me to search through though.

Even if you set it to share with "Friends only"?

I only let it share with friends of friends for my own photo albums, the rest is friends only.

friends only works with most things. some things just need some extra attention and care. and also just be aware that a lot of the sites you sign up for, e.g. twitter, will show a google search result from your full registered name. graduation is a good time to make a lot of your shit 'by request only' or 'friends only' - there's no need to let networks or friends of friends view anything on your profile, technically, when you're over the 'make loads of friends at university partying' phase. even stuff like your interests, likes and activities on facebook can say a great deal about you to a (discerning or discriminating) employer. i wouldn't even want a potential employer looking at what books or movies i like - people are capricious.
