The govt. does not ask a man and a woman why they are getting married. and now, they will not ask 2 gay people why they are getting married. CAn we not wonder if the govt. will ask why 2 straight same sex people are getting married? IF the govt. does ask, then that will be discrimination. That is really all I am saying. All of the drama is coming from the usual crowd that addresses WHO is posting and not WHAT is being posted.Dauntless wrote:
well if you take it for granted that two gay people getting married would definitely go without question then yes i suppose i can see what you're saying
but why would two gay people getting married automatically go without question?
and I don't think you can say two straight people getting married for financial gain would not be investigated either, i'm sure a lot of the time people get away with it fairly easily but it's not like investigations don't happen.http://www.immihelp.com/greencard/famil … rview.htmlIf the officer suspects that your marriage is fraudulent, you will be meeting the fraud unit. An officer will interview you and your spouse separately and intensively. The officer will compare the results of your two interviews. Sometimes, truly married couples also get suspected because of their personal characteristics or lifestyle and may have to go through a fraud interview. People who do not seem to share a common language, have large differences in age, class, cultural, religion, educational background or who don't live at the same address may be called for a fraud interview. You may also be called if your application missed facts that would prove a bona fide marriage, contains some inconsistencies, or presents grounds for suspicion.

No.
Unlikely happen to a same-sex couple.
Hence, thread is pointless.
well I don't know the ins and outs of the marriage system, but like the quote says "If the officer suspects that your marriage is fraudulent, you will be meeting the fraud unit." I don't know if they directly ask the couples why they are getting married, but what difference does it make?
how would the govt. know who's straight and gay anyway? i mean you could be saying the same thing about the govt. asking why a gay man and a gay woman were getting married.

No they don't, but with this new law, there is going to be some new unexplored circumstances to some marriages, and if there is a way of taking advantage of this law someone will find it. Question is, will the govt. make it there business by stepping in and refusing to allow same sex straight people to marry.Jaekus wrote:

How will they know they are straight?

Will they know is not the question. The question is will they care? Can the straight couple be "openly straight" and apply for a same sex marriage license?Jaekus wrote:

Can two openly gay people of different genders get married?
It's a dumb topic.
It's a dumb topic.
lowing, for the millionth time in this thread, why do you assume that is hasn't been happening for decades between straight men and straight women or between homosexual men/women and a straight man/woman. This changes nothing. Fraud will still occur. Stop being obtuse.lowing wrote:

Gay man and lesbian woman (or vice versa) getting married for benefits? I'm sure that has never ever happened!Jaekus wrote:

And this folks, is why movies are so dangerous. Clearly lowing saw chuck and larry and assumed that it would be the norm. He completely missed the real point of the movie and focused in on the attempted fraud. How sad.

I agree. We should ban movies.Jay wrote:

Or at least ones with Adam Sandler in them.
Why would two heterosexual men, or two heterosexual women choose to marry? I doubt they'd be excluded from doing so, but they'd have no motivation to do, except perhaps a marriage of technical convenience (eg. to obtain benefits only afforded to the married)
A hate crime is a crime committed against someone based on a factor such as race, religion, gender, sexuality...people have been bashed for being straight, for being white, for being male, and others have been convicted for committing such crimes.
Its not special rights, its special legislation to ensure equal rights.

Sorry JAy, never saw the movie.Jay wrote:

Was there not already equal rights? Assault on a black guy is assault and assault on a white guy is assault. There is no need for any legislation that distinguishes motive. It is STILL assault.Pubic wrote:

Look, given this new law and unexplored territory, it is not "obtuse" to ask if the govt. will care if 2 straight people of the same sex marry each other.Jay wrote:

Is it really special rights when gay people get the same rights as everyone else?
Wait behind the line ..............................................................
Why should two straight guys marry? It's just DUMB.
already been over that Jay, and their reasons are not relevant, only if they will be allowed to.Jaekus wrote:

And driving your car into someone you don't like is murder. And getting distracted by your kids in the back and driving into someone is also murder. And having your brakes fail and driving into someone is also murder.lowing wrote:

You're an idiot if you think motive is not important in a crime.
Not to my satisfaction.lowing wrote:

Allowing them to is just dumb. It is an abuse of rights, not exercising them.
