look,  people do not get married for love only any more. They get married for a shit load of reasons, mainly to advantage to them. IF the govt. is saying gays can marry same sex while no one else can, that is the issue. Special rights and considerations is the issue, not wether or not I want to marry a dude. Stop making it personal.

I'm getting married because I love my fiancee. I don't give a shit about shared benefits or tax breaks or any of the other crap that goes with it. Stop trying to project your own misery and connivance onto others.

Thought you left D&ST, no surprise you came back though. Anyway, I personally prefer to marry someone I love and is overall a person I can deal with for the rest of my life.

lol, I said do not make it personal because this is not about me. I will not feel discriminated against, but you better bet your ass someone will challenge it in court. I mean c'mon we got people going to court over "in god we trust", do you think a perceived discrimination will go un-noticed and un challenged?

Not sure what the second part is about, I am all for tax breaks however you can get them, therefore no hypocrisy. The more a person can keep their money the better.

Gay marriage = same-sex marriage. It is increasing your rights as a citizen, not discriminating heterosexuals.

I can't honestly understand how anyone can not understand the simple logic this involves, and yet here we are.

You know, I don't honestly think i've ever heard of anyone I know getting married for the tax breaks. Maybe it's different in america to here but normally you have to spend a bit of time booking these things and if you want to get married in a church tend to spend time talking to whoever's performing the ceremony who will not marry you if he/she is not happy with the arrangement. Same goes for the registry office. You can't just walk into wherever and say we want to get married right this second so we can get a two for one offer at pizza hut.

This thread is pointless and just another excuse to cry on about how because you're a white working class male every single law is there to give minorities power over you. Get on with your life and stop moaning about how tiny insignificant laws that don't affect you are discriminating.

Maybe if you stopped to consider the amount of shit that people of a different sexual preference to the norm go through on an everyday basis you would be more in favour of giving them the same rights in the eyes of the law. That is the point of these gay pride parades that you seem to hate so much, they are in your face for a fucking reason, they're not meant to be ignored they're a protest as much as a celebration.

I don't see why married couples get tax benefits but two people who love each other and have lived with each other and have essentially been married in all but name for 20 years don't.

I also don't understand why single people don't get some of these benefits. The only argument I've heard is something to the effect of "well y'know the government wants to make sure marriages stay together," guess you better up those tax benefits or something because the 50% divorce rate we have right now seems pretty awful.

Never said I do not want all groups to have the same rights, I have clearly stated my position, I do not want any groups have special rights or considerations over any other groups.
