This is exactly my point - So many (most?) smokers wish they'd never started, and a lot of them cannot quit. We do not want the same thing to happen to our younger generation, who don't have the same ability to judge the consequences of smoking like you do. It's sadly going to have a negative effect on your wallet, but I think it's worth it if it helps make cigarettes a thing of the past. But obviously, I'm not paying any of this, so there you go.
The taxes seem to have worked really well - how often do you hear people use the, "why the fuck would you, it's so expensive" argument? It already popped up in page one of this thread, and I here people my age say it all the time. And now I don't know a single person (my age) who smokes. I'm quite happy about that.
