Not as much as you like to think ...

The foundation is still based on capitalism similar to the US, we have however implemented quite some socialistic "safety" features and perks ...

Those features eliminates most loopholes that causes corruption in similar economies, the government has a tight grip on the financial markets and businesses, we take care of the weakest (maybe to much but it works) etc etc

A good mix of government and corporations that works together, truly a government both for and by the people

I'm surprised the Scandinavian model doesn't catch on outside our territory ... Ghana state officials however have the last years been flooding Norway to copy our model
If you "take care of the weakest", tell me, what is the incentive for the weak to get stronger?

you are speaking as if my height is as much in my control as my ambition, drive, attitude, perseverance, motivation etc.. Is that what you are trying to suggest?

I'm suggesting that not everyone has the choices and opportunities available to them that you do.

Some people would be as unable to look after themselves as you would be to grow a third head.

like who exactly? Who other than the handicapped, and children, do not have a choice?

Why do you interpret a failure of ambition and drive on the part of an individual, as a failure of society and is the responsibility of society?

Where in the world do you get belief that equal opportunity equates to equal results?

Are you suggesting the only difference between a crack whore and an astronaut is opportunity?

The incentive is easily enough that almost all people do want to contribute to society to the best of their abilities, a very few falls outside that category but they are so few so it really isn't an economic factor ...

So what is the solution for a country like the USA where those in question consider themselves "entitled", over looking for a means to help themselves. Ya see, this is why my attitude is what it is. When I was in Germany I was left with an impression of pride and civic responsibility. In our country we are infested with the opposite. The more they are given, the more they feel they are entitled. Then when you try to reel in that entitlement you are an evil monster.

The USA is in a different situation, the slave legacy, rap music and naked greed being the biggest problems IMO.
The corporate leaders who feel 'entitled' to take whatever they can get (and don't tell me every one of them is honest, talented and hardworking) and screw everyone else and society to boot are the other side of the entitlement coin.
Are you suggesting the only difference between a crack whore and an astronaut is opportunity?
Its one possible difference, not the only difference.

I get your point and partially understand why you feel that way ...

Maybe because there is a tradition of not being taken care of in the US, this goes hand in hand with government corruption, if the government enrich itself on behalf of the people the people will grab whatever they can get ...

Capitalism have become a sort of religion in the US is my impression and it seems that there is no restrictions as what means you use to get money, doesn't matter if you hurt people in the process ... not saying it is like that but that's the impression ...

The US citizens is not a unified team anymore ...

The solution? ... I'm not sure actually ... the democrats are the closest you have to implement a more social responsible direction in politics but with vengeful republicans on the other side you really never get anything valuable done for the people of the US ...

A new political system that is more transparent, a set salary for politicians that cannot whatsoever take "bribes" ... your leaders must front the country as good examples not as power/money hungry villains ...

nothing I can disagree with here. One problem I have with democrats however is, they are just as rich as the republicans, and they did not get that way through generosity, teamwork or a sense of "fairness" and "neighborliness". They are for taking from everyone else, except them, while republicans lean toward, I got mine go get yours.

No matter who is worse the people have a hard time trusting any of them and that's a huge problem ... for the people, and only the people can change that around.

A new political direction coming from a new voice that isn't corrupted could gather massive amounts of votes ... that is if enough people wants real change.

Yeah they tried that "change" thing before, even gave him a nobel prize for "hope" and what did it get us, from the pan into the fire.

The people have lost hope. Those that can bring real change ( not the Obama kind of change) will not get the exposure necessary to be noticed let alone elected.

Obama never stood a chance, the block that loose the election always use the next 4 years sabotaging the other side so you actually never gets any real change done because whatever seems to be bipartisan talks ends up with a bad compromise that really doesn't solve anything ...

The US wasn't ready for Obama just yet ... he's got the right ideas but little chance of transforming it into the announced change he spoke of, the republicans made sure of that ...
