If he did know his compound had been identified why would he stay? It's likely that he relied on a combination of circumstances. He would have most likely received a heads up if the Pakistani's were going to move on the compound. That's not flat out support. OBL relied not only on that, but their incompetence as well. This leaves the US military as the real threat, which he counted on being handcuffed by national sovereignty.
