I can see why people might be looking for a way to emigrate from Facebook apart from partisan politics. There has been a lot of punitive, unexplained moderation from staff including account and group shutdowns for minor reasons, inconsistent to accounts and groups allowed to stay open. Abuse of reports, ex: trolls getting away with finally getting someone to react and then getting them removed for it. Getting back on once you've been removed involves a lot of hoop jumping, and nothing's stopping them from removing you again without explanation. The company treats members like sack-of-garbage, unpaid employees; a bonus for Facebook being that they have no employee rights. A little appreciation for the people who help make the company money could go a long way. I would like to see them continue to exist as a social media company with no membership.

I find Twitter leaving fact-checks to be way more funny than just deleting posts.

I've been bombarded with horror stories about dealing with Facebook people and Facebook issues. I've got a more real account on linkedin, but I don't used that either. I don't see that any of my business contacts there use it for a lot of business stuff either. I've probably also avoided wearing yet another hat ("social media manager," blergh) for my company as well. I can predict nothing good from getting a bunch of boomers brain dumping a bunch of non-company related stuff onto a "business social media platform." Already had to coach some of the more combative ones (usually the Facebook users) to stop looking for random negative feedback to fight with online. Well rated enough without possibly sabotaging everything by opening that can of worms.

Imagine calling a meeting where half the people in the room are 10-20 years older than you to lecture them on how to, for the betterment of the company, keep their mouths shut online. Would need some antacid recommendations.

In this case the engineer probably didn't do enough and his career is toast - a situation you'll never be in as you'll never do anything of significance or with any degree of risk.

China has strongly rebuked the UK, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada after being accused of a concerted effort to silence critics in Hong Kong.

The countries, which form the Five Eyes alliance, criticised China's imposition of new rules to disqualify elected legislators in Hong Kong.

They urged Beijing to reverse course.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman warned countries to stay out of China's affairs saying: "They should be careful or their eyes will be plucked out."

"The Chinese never make trouble and are never afraid of anything," Zhao Lijian told journalists in Beijing on Thursday, saying it did not "matter if they had five or 10 eyes".

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a "global mechanism" that would use QR codes to open up international travel.

"We need to further harmonise policies and standards and establish 'fast tracks' to facilitate the orderly flow of people," he said.

The codes will be used to help establish a traveller's health status.

But Human Rights advocates warn that the codes could be used for "broader political monitoring and exclusion".
