my platoon leader in iraq was a prior service tanker, reached e-5, went national guard during school, got his degree in tree science or some gay shit like that and was commissioned as an officer in the quartermaster branch.  then the dod tasked him as an infantry platoon leader for iraq due to the needs of the army

still, if you dont try you'll never know. I guess you have to weigh the job prospects of your degree to what you can do with the army. Even if you do get placed in psyop, how long until you could get back with the infantry from there (assuming you could)?

And would it be better/worse than... (I don't know what your degree is in or what jobs you could do)

Like, I've got a buddy who was in AFROTC. After the first two years, you apply for an EA which is basically an acceptance into the last two years where you learn the real nitty-gritty officer stuff. That acceptance is based on PT scores, AFOQT scores, GPA, recommendation by your commander etc.

Glad it works differently over here, you apply for infantry, you go through selection and given that you make it through - you get & stick with the infantry. If you want to end up in the upper echelons you need to do lots of different jobs though (understandably).

If only they'd stop cutting the budget, I've been waiting for 2-3 years now.. shit, and it's going to be 4
