The way I think of it is you're probably gona have to turn shadows and lighting etc down anyway just like BF2 if you wana be able to see stuff properly so I'm not gona spend out loads on a new rig.
I always played with all shadows and lighting on.  What's the point of buying a game and not to see and enjoy it in its full beauty? Better visibility and extra points in my stats are not worth spending 2000 hours of my time in a game that looks like sh!t.

Just before BF3 is released I'm going to buy a new PC that can cope with best quality settings of the new game. I need it anyway as my current one is.. a 2005 machine which I bought for BF2...

Since I already have a case from my last build I am going to continue to use it, along with several harddrives and cd/dvd burners, etc.
I still have a 750w OCZ  gaming power supply so here is what am considering for BF3:

Video Card:    $170    ASUS ENGTX460 SE DC/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
RAM:           $100    Patriot G series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Motherboard:   $110     ASUS P7P55 LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
Processor:     $210    Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
CPU Cooler:    $15    COOLER MASTER RR-H101-22FK-RI 80mm Long life sleeve bearing CPU Cooler

Yea I had a bad experience with ati. I am not really up-to-date on all of these fancy computer parts anymore. I just try to get the best (from my knowledge, and personal experiences with products in the past).

LOL at making fun of the keyboard, i thought it was just too funny not to have.

No point buying a i5-760 when you can get a i5-2500 for the same price with much better performance (and newer tech). Obviously then you would need to change your motherboard to a 1155 socket.

What is the real advantage of the i5-2500 over the i5-760? I am not really good with technical stuff. I just figured which ever one had the fastest cache and decent GHz would be good, the 760 has 8mb cache and the 2500 has 6mb cache.

The 2500 is completely different architecture, you can't compare them in simple Ghz/cache terms.

Take a look at this comparison, the 2500 is definitely worth it since it costs pretty much the same.

Just like he wont buy this game because it's too mainstream.

Phenom II X4 945, 8GB Corsair 1333 (4x2GB), Radeon 6850, Corsair 750TX.  Runs BC2 like a dream on high - it will run BF3 well enough, though I am tempted to drop in a 1055T or better, and either replace the video card or go down the Crossfire route.  Probably a new card, as I can sell the 6850 then, and it'll cost about the same.

Any quad core/4GB should be able to run it, provided the video card is reasonable (eg. 5770 or 460), though of course better hardware = better eyecandy.

No point of going to a better cpu in the same socket when the bulldozers will be dropping before the game does anyway. Better off going the crossfire route.

Pretty much resolved myself to one of two things:

a) New build if this laptop breaks down to unplayability.
b) New build once BF3's out.

Either way, I may skip Intel's newest processors altogether.

I went from AMD dual core straight to i7 950

The only thing I plan on upgrading specifically for this game is my graphics card.
