I've been on a boat like that when it drops over the crest of a huge wave/rough seas, feels like a rollercoaster and it's surreal being in such a large vehicle that's getting rocked so much

You really don't get it do you?

You think the way the japanese are handling this crisis and how US citizens responded to Katrina, including both good and bad actions, has absolutely nothing to do with culture? OK sure, US culture is infallible. I mean, it's not like you let massive ghettos with terrible living conditions exist, either. (which by the way helps up crime rates).

People are not disconnected from their surroundings you know, the way you grew up has had a massive impact on who you are today. Same for a kid that grows up in a ghetto and decides to go with crime as an adult, you're simply being in denial if you think it has nothing at all to do with that part of your american culture. Why do you think crime rates in the US are higher than in the EU?

Furthermore, there's also a deeper connection inbetween japanese people than inbetween US people - for example; there's far more emphasis on the family as a whole. You really don't have that, and a responsible family helps keep eachother in check.

There's no quick or painless death with radiation poisoning.

Protective equipment and treatment is better though.

We don't.

Edit- and everyone I know is devoted to their family. It's people outside their own tribe that they aren't attached to.

You have a very surreal opinion on American culture...

Ok so to recap, personal responsibility and individualism promotes, raping murdering and looting others in crisis, promotes the disconnect of family and is the reason for ghetto life?

Don't really know how to respond to any of that except to say you have a grim opinion on Americans and what it means to be free.

Being free and responsible means you are FREE to choose and are RESPONSIBLE for your choices. It does not mean you are free to victimize another person, and FORCED to live in a ghetto. Dismissing your family is also a personal choice and is not widely accepted as part of "American culture".

I gave my opinion as to why the Japanese are acting so dignified and I believe it is because they hold personal responsibility and honor and respect in very high regard, ( the opposite of your opinion of what it means to be responsible and free) I do not think it is because they are forced to act like that or are emotionless robots who thinks there sole reason in life is to serve the Emperor.

"only" a 6.1... I guess if it goes off 100, 200 etc miles off the coast maybe.  If its right underneath your city, well you'll be using some four letter words to describe the event, but I assure you that "only" won't be one of them.

Not sure what that means in reference to what I posted, but to answer, I already live there.

My family and I are healthy, we both have jobs, the kids are doing great in school, are never in trouble. I live in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains, in a nice modest country home, with a wood burning stove and a wrap around porch and I got my loyal dog and my wife's damn cat.
I have no complaints with my life right now.....Now let me guess, this is where you tell me how "lucky" I am, as if I made none of it happen with the decisions I make.

Nah it happened off the coast if I'm not mistaken, not very far though. More than 50 6.0+ quakes have happened since the big one.

Well yo kinda left it wide open there dontcha think? Your big point was I am not from Rwanda, and I said neither are the people from New Orleans, just kinda sorta thought you had some slam dunk iron clad argument excusing NO from its behavior, guess not. If I was supposed to act like I was from Rwanda you shoulda let me know.
