Pretty awesome considering that right before the unrest in Libya started Norway was discussing having an embassy in Libya to better our relations with Ze Mogaf ... Statoil (government oil company) already had lots of workers in eastern parts of Libya ...

Interesting, we're prepared to get involved in a war to protect the oppressed in Libya.
In Palestine, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia we're actively helping to oppress.

Will take that with huge skepticism at present. Something isn't adding up... and why do I get the feeling Gaddafi is baiting the international community?

That's exactly what nobody wanted to happen. Hopefully the rebels reject the ceasefire, they rejected it last time. Surely they have lost too much and Gaddafi has shown too much to just stop now. I'll be surprised/disappointed if this move actually works.

I agree with Beduin that suggesting this is all part of a Western conspiracy is rather dumb, but at the same time, the West is very selective in its distaste for dictators.

No but we told them we wanted to.  Could of saved a whole lot of money effort and lives.  If Graffiti has done war crimes then I hope the fucker cops it in some court, sooner rather than later.

yeaaaaah

but in IR wording in actions is key, Most Western countries hate being hasty in making big declarations (except Russia/China/NK, I think. When they denounce something action usually happens within a couple days)

So accoridng to Fox News Quadaffi's forces attacked Benghazi this morning... Contrary to what Mummar son was saying... Apparently tanks rolled in, fucked some shit up, then rolled back out to the border.

I read the UN resolution last night, and it seemed to hint at airstrikes as being a possibility to protect civilians... hope the international community gets on this quickly.

One thing that probably hurt Gadhafi more than anything else was running afoul of the Arab League.  Once they started backing intervention in Libya, it was only a matter of time before the UN would pass something.

But yeah, we clearly don't give a damn about a lot of African conflicts (or what's going on in Burma for that matter).
