is copying a fellow students test allowed?
Here we go again
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me

However, strictly speaking a download from the iTunes store is also a copy of the original as much as a download from TPD is a copy of the original.

By that logic, DVR should be banned.11 Bravo wrote:

And if I wanted to download a copy of a show or movie that I could watch on cable you'd have an issue with it.11 Bravo wrote:

you guys are trying to justify specific cases. you know damn well most people just steal the shit. period.
Movies: the movies that I really do want to see I usually go and see in the movie theather and I'll probably download them afterwards if I thought11 Bravo wrote:

they were really good.
TV: Most shows air on TV here anyways, so I really don't see much harm in downloading before they air here. Bit silly to wait a month longer..
Games: Hardly ever, buy the games for my PS3 and games I intent to play online on the PC.
Music: Use spotify nowadays.
To watch it at a more convenient time? So if you're ok with me downloading something I'm already paying for... what's the difference between me waiting six months for a movie to come out on regular cable and downloading it today? There isn't any.11 Bravo wrote:

Only thing I'll ever pirate is music. As mentioned, most artists get the majority of their cash from concerts and merchandising. Trent Reznor has reiterated how ridiculous it costs to buy music nowadays, and I see a lot of artists who don't really care that people share/DL illegally anymore. LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy once held a concert that was consisting of all the tracks on the new album, and he stated he didn't care if people shared it once it was released, but he literally begged people not to share recordings of the concert before the album was released. That's pretty fair tbh. I do buy albums occasionally though. Probably like 3-4 a year.
Never pirate TV shows, games, movies or any software though.

Ahh, but you could copy it and replay it at your leisure and it wouldn't bother 11 Bravo. DVRs are cool so VCRs must be too.Winston_Churchill wrote:

Is your brain tired yet? You're performing a wonderful set of mental gymnastics. It's just not a black and white issue.11 Bravo wrote:

yeah it's real good for trent reznor to play the whole 'the industry sucks!' card now that's he's a hip 50 year old and has had platinum selling albums flogged to disenchanted youth for the same 'extortionate' prices throughout the 80's and 90'. fucking puhleez. i pirate music more than anyone else here but relying on trenet reznor as some sort of 'credible' piracy defense is like citing OJ Simpson in a 'not guilty' charge.Poseidon wrote:

my perfect example
without downloading music, i never would have discovered one of my current favourite artists: sigur ros.
now, even if i had discovered him myself (highly unlikely since nobody around here knows of him, let alone having any airtime), i might have bought 2 albums at $20 each, so maybe $2 (at the VERY maximum) goes to him.
instead, since i love them and decided to support him directly, i bought stuff from his merch store. he made a hell of a lot more than $2 from me that way.
