What kind of shitty CS have you played?

I've probably played >500 hours of CS:S before Steam began monitoring playtime and it's one of the few games I've played where hitreg is consistently good...

Pretty sure thats a youtube comment, judging by the punctuation and general stupidity.

Doom-type level design was great for the period in which those games were made. I'd rather see that kind of design in games with narrow plotlines than have to wander through a sandbox that gives you nothing but extra travel time.
I´m not sure I understand you. This game has a narrow story and forces you to go through the same replika-corridors multiple times, so you like it that way?

I prefer focused map design if the game doesn't focus on complex plot lines. A huge sandbox with nothing in it and/or no point to any of it might as well be a corridor shooter. Doom was an action FPS, not a story one.

I agree. Hence why the mapdesign in Dark Forces is so terribad. Especially since you cant save during a mission.

This is pretty much why I find RAGE so boring, it pretends to have all these open and varying areas but really it is 100% linear so it is just padding out the game between identical no recoil gunfights.

It should be a good design though. Like Deus Ex did it. The areas wern´t too wide, yet there was enough to be discovered and many ways to approach things.

Who was having the same issue with duplicate and/or wrong entries in their Steam Library?

I recieved response for my Support ticket minutes ago and got this:
Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam:

Pretty much. Rage is sadly a poor example. They neither use true sandbox nor proper "corridor" shooter format. It's a lot of driving long distances from A to B with nothing really between the two points to hold your interest. They might as well have cut out the driving and just given us portals to bandit lairs to enter from a central hub.

Figured I´d try out Dark Forces II - Jedi Knight after I bought it in a steam sale long ago. Unlike with Dark Forces though, the steam version isn´t properly coded to work on modern systems and gives me windowd cutscenes and totally fucked up textrures when ingame. GG VALVE

Now I can go on a crusade through forums on the hunt for mods to fix these issues. wtf

Yeh, it is kind of shady that they knowingly sell games that wont work without a fair bit of troubleshooting. Obviously it isnt their responsibility but not even a disclaimer or anything.

It's the developers fault really... or who-ever owns the game now...

Steam will put disclaimers up if they are made aware of the issue AND allowed to disclaim by owner...

haha, I guess "allowed to by the owner" is the one that doesnt get permission then.

Like I said, I understand why it doesnt happen but that doesnt change the feeling you get after buying a game and finding it wont work till you google and install random things for 30 minutes. Of course that is just as common with brand new AAA titles these days so its all moot I guess.

Grain of salt.

I bought the Star Wars pack. Most of the games work. A few don't, but I have CD copies anyway.

What irks me more is when they don't include the full game in a sale, such as cutting music from the Quake releases because they couldn't be assed to have the CD music download with the title.

Well that got rid of the duplicate game in my list at least. Steam is still constantly freezing up and being unresponsive though. Not to mention updating games that are already fully updated or not updating games that need to be.

Tru dat, newest example being Rage. I guess its part of PC gaming, but the lack of info pisses me off. With Dirt 1 they at least had an info at the store page that it wouldn´t run under Windows 7.

@un13: Problem is though, that most of the original cd wont properly isntall or run under new windows systems. Plus I left pretty much all of them in another country when I moved

Gog.com does a way better job with releasing old titles, but they don´t have any Star Wars titles. Or Crimson Skies.

You sure that "updating game that isn't supposed to be" isn't Cloud sync?

Try changing your download location?

Yeh its not, I think it was actually just verifying the files because it didnt download anything and then said it was finished. Number 1 required feature of steam is separate install/uninstall from downloading/deleting. Suppose it is not really an issue in most countries but I cant just be downloading shit all the time because steam is being dumb.

You can untick the "keep this game up to date" box if you want to make sure it doesn't download anything unless you want it to...

It also doesn't download non-installed games obviously...

Playing Saint's Row 2. Cop completely ignored me while i was walking down the street with a shotgun. He turned around and yelled at a car to slow down. Come to think of it, nobody reacted until I fired a shot into the air.

Anyone know what the hell the wolf symbol is? Wanted to see how many stars I could get to and they were popping up next to them.
