And I just got a bill demanding 105 euros for a simple fucking checkup last march which really could not have come at a worse time

do you have to pay? are you sure the 105 euros thing isn't supposed to be billed to your health insurance? sometimes you'll get correspondence that says "this is not a bill" but still has charges listed. Usually you can call your health insurance provider and let them know they have a bill to pay on behalf of you
