I played this game about a month after it came out because my PC was broken.

I tried to avoid spoilers, but I couldn't avoid the constant news about how terrible the ending was. I even read it was being accused of false advertising by consumer groups. I already knew when i started playing that they were working on extending it to 'clarify' and 'add closure'. So I thought I was well prepared for how bad it would be, and it couldn't possibly be as bad as everyone had been making out.

But it was.

It really, really was.

There are 2 possible outcomes.

One: Take the ending at face value. Nothing makes any sense at all. The core themes of the franchise are thrown out of the window for a completely nonsensical ending involving space magic, colourful explosions, and magical teleporting squadmembers.

Two: Part or all of the ending is in Shepards head. This is the worst idea for an ending to a huge franchise ever. If this is the case, the game doesn't actually end. It "ends" with Shepard overcoming his internal struggle and still lying in London about to attack the Citadel, and we never find out what happens.

Am I the only one who really doesn't care about the extended cut DLC? I mean I'm sure I'll look up gameplay videos on YouTube, but I just don't have the energy to go through the last two major battles after how disappointing the ending was. Even if the "theory" ends up being true. The initial bad ending left me without really caring enough.

I'm curious to see what they did so I'll play the ending again when it comes out tomorrow.

I'm curious to see whether they can salvage the complete trainwreck that was the original ending. On a related note,

Nah Bioware forums have been crazy for months now, plenty of people who dont care

Regarding the EC
Spoiler (highlight to read):
Well its ok..ish, few more cut scenes but more of a slideshow than anything else, narrated by hacket/edi/shepard depending on destroy/synth/control, which does a decent job of explaining what happens after you make your choice.

They have neither confirmed or denied IT, though its looks less likely to be what Bioware intended now, they wanted to keep both believers and non-believers happy apparently.

Also a new ending where you can completly reject the catalysts solutions, though this means the cycle continues and everyone dies lol.  Game ends with Liara as a VI warning the next cycle of the reapers and giving them plans for the crucible.

TBH it didn't tell me anything I didn't know/hadn't guessed. Which I suppose shows that the original ending wasn't as minimal as people had thought.

They completely changed 2 things (despite saying they wouldn't).

In the new ending the relays don't explode, and the Normandy isn't heavily damaged. You can see a comparison here: http://kotaku.com/5921569/mass-effect-3 … re-closure

It's interesting because despite all their interview twaddle, it shows that they do regret some aspects of the original ending and outright changed them.

In the refusal ending, the Catalyst says "so be it" in HARBINGER'S voice.

How can that not prove the indoctrination theory?

Just as I expected, nothing to really satisfy me. Didn't even bother DLing, just watched the endings on YouTube like I said.

In the end, BioWare dropped the ball. All it is. Happens sometimes with stories. I dealt with it with LOST too. Not every story can have a great ending. It's just disappointing after such consistently great writing, even for most of the 3rd game itself, that it'd be such a terrible ending. The destroy ending still leaves a feeling of "eh" with me.

even without the "so be it voice" how can anyone not tell its harbinger being the catalyst? hurr durr reapers are good mmk, yeah sure real convincing.

the catalyst sort of says it controls/is the reapers. harbinger is implied as being the controlling reaper

so y'know

people are trying amazingly hard to find plot holes, it's kinda surreal

Its strange it wasnt confirmed but theres still things that dont make sense regarding IT.

Such as you still "win" with synthesis and control and if it was all in sheps head, then anderson and TIM were never there and must still be alive, yet we never see or hear anything about them.

This is only if you take IT word for word though, I imagine just parts of it are true

This game really is a steaming pile of shite.  I've been forcing myself to play it off and on for the past 5 months just so I could sell it back.  Still haven't finished.  The game has none of the magic of the other two, and they ruined the conversation system, which is really the only thing they innovated in the first place.  The RPG-esque exploration of the first game?  Not there.  The heavy emphasis on character development from the second?  Gone completely.  So I'm sitting there watching this guy named Shephard say some shit I don't know he's going to say.  How is this any different from a Gears of War game?  Not to mention that THE MULTIPLAYER FUCKING SUCKS and they're FORCING me to play it.  Fuck this.

This is coming from someone who had an unhealthy obsession with ME2.  What the hell did they do to my baby?!?!?

In terms of hype for a narrative based piece of fiction, the path ME3 has taken has been eerily similar to me as Lost was a couple years back.  Corporate suits wanting to cash out on something and nervous writers worried about critical reception = not a good combination.

This company should have been their own publisher and never gone with EA.
So done with BW.
