Rather be a race car driver...
And by Wednesday I will be through glorious need for speed hot pursuit, yeah.

lol, ignorance. running is only the basis of like 90% of all sports and probably the most classic sport of all time. but you know, no big deal.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

I guess everyone has to strive to be the best in something.
and imagine the kind of deals you can get being an olympian + commonwealth + world games athlete. she'll be making more money than you could dream of easily quite soon

I'd rather be good at a sport than be good at exercising.JohnG@lt wrote:

and of course theyre not making tiger level money, theres nowhere near the coverage of golf for running. that doesnt take away from the fact that theyre paid a ton of money and are probably better athletes than many (especially tiger).

But they aren't paid a ton of money. Maybe if you're lucky and charasmatic you can swing a sponsorship deal or beat a barefoot Kenyan in a big Marathon, but other than that there's not really any money in competative running. And the 'better athelete' debate is purely subjective.Winston_Churchill wrote:

still id rather be better at doing an actual sport than an exercise. besides no one watches women sports.Winston_Churchill wrote:
Considering you can win up to $500k for a single race and once you're well known you can get 10k just for showing up to a race. Plus getting all expenses paid by the government for pretty much any training related travel/food/accomodations. Yeah its a pretty damned good deal. And thats not even including sponsorships.

you realize that the "big kenyans" dont actually go to every race. and they dont dominate as much anymore either. and theres quite a bit of money in competitive running, ive met the canadian women's marathon record holder and she's had a sponsorship with brooks canada for ages now and still makes tons of money out of it. as well as doing talks for athletics canada = $$$KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

compared to what? golf? thats an activity, not a sport. running is a sport, ever seen the summer olympics? its also one of the purest and most historical sports.Cybargs wrote:

Haven't made it that far yet tho'
Mostly because it gets boring fast and there are too many "time trial" events as a cop...
a girl i've known since i was like 10 is going to be in the 2012 olympic running team, has a scholarship to long beach uni and is gonna run for american teams... all for big $$$. she broke like every single running-based sporting record at my school and then went on to thrash all sorts of regional/county/national competitions. she used to get up every day before school and run 1500m minimum, whatever the weather. hardcore.JohnG@lt wrote:
