Debating with a highly religious person is like playing chess with a pigeon. The birds knocks down all the pieces, shits on the board and flies home to brag about how he won.
It's pointless. They're so brainwashed with their stuff that they refuse to even consider otherwise even if the proof is sitting right there in front of them. Earth 10k years old... pff... I'm going to take a morning dump.
it's pointless, atheists and anti-religous people are so brainwashed with sterotypes and religous people worshipping some little man in the clouds that they refuse to consider what it actually means to be religous.
you're a perfect example, nobody said the world is only 10k years old, and the christian church doesn't believe in that. in fact, the christian church doesn't deny the theory of evolution. its called symbolism bro:"The Bible is not fundamentally a work of science," he said. FYI, just because it says there's only life on Earth, doesn't mean I wouldn't think it's freaking cool if we had some neighbors.
Surely God is alive... right? Must exist somewhere, right?
Doesn't the all life in the universe in on Earth contradict the point that God exists? Unless God is on Earth, right?

if we found alien life we'd destroy them all if we could
Cowboy Bebop scenario would be legit. I wanna live on Mars ffs.
Or if we could, we could turn ourselves into a mix of them and become super hybrids and rule the fucking Galaxy.SEREVENT wrote:

The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
If alien life was discovered, the first thing that would happen would be a massive hush-up, especially if they found an alien body. If a civilian discovered an alien, it'd probably be taken from them and they'd be made to look like a UFO crazy. The only time we could hope to know if alien life was discovered would be if a scientific team did extensive research on it away from the eyes of the government, and then released their data and proof. That's probably the most likely, anyways. Secondly, if we discovered life on another planet... holy crap. People would be divided into groups. There'd be the "Declare war" group, the "colonize the place and civilize the aliens" group, there'd be the "Aliens are misunderstood!" group, the "Let's stop and think and postpone this thing for 50 years cause we can;t make up our minds" group, and finally the small but most-clear minded "Why don't we just go to their planet, say hi, collect a few samples and generally stay out of their way until relations improve" group.SEREVENT wrote:

And this will be before people even read the media hyped article thoroughly enough to know whether the alien species was sentient, animal like, or some bacteria.
nope. and im sure you dont either because you know nothing about religion so stop trying to debate itjord wrote:

You both have good points. Er, actually, the reason that catholics and atheists dont get along is because we're both so misinformed about each other. That's really it. Then we quote the misinformation, and sound stupid.
And having conflicting views doesn't help either.

Scroll to 0:51.
This is pretty much what you get when you combine divinity and human nature.
What if we discovered another sentient species that worships God? That would be food for thought.
Also, notice how the bible never mentions what humans look like after they were created? The only description is "in God's image".
That should answer any questions you have about the Church believing in aliens.

I wonder if we'd need new technology to explore the planet. What if it had a different type of atmosphere? What if the oceans aren't made of water? Heck, what if the aliens themselves aren't mainly made of water. That planet could potentially be one of the biggest research projects of our time. Heck, it might even create new companies that make the equipment needed to explore it. Exploring that planet opens up all kinds of possibilities.
no, we cant read their opinions then

Check it out. It's like Earth, but a whole lot warmer.
This planet could essentially have better living conditions for humans than Earth.
Or be resource rich.

Ok so if you're debating all these common misconceptions about religion, excuse me, Christianity. What do you beleive in then, regarding Christianity. What's your beliefs? How do you tie the two together if you're a huge Christian and a top 3% nationwide Science student at the same time. I'm just intrigued.HaiBai wrote:

its not like this is a big deal, there's plenty of religious scientists out there. science hasn't disproved a single part of the catholic religionMekstizzle wrote:
