The reed wasnt worst part (as we have a farm, so its just a bit of a chore to harvest), but the wood was a bitch to chop
use tree farms...
if you make a ring of dirt/stone 3 blocks above ground level and plant a tree on the ground 3 blocks below the ring it'll be taller when it grows.
oh and try typing in random stuff into the "seed" field when generating worlds. 1111111111 yields some weird landforms, "Cryo" yields a large snow world

This is while walking back from ~ 6-7km out from spawn. We walked in the nether for aaaaaaages, and buillt a portal. Then followed the compass back for a couple of hours till it was too late, and called it a night. Will get on it tomorrow

You CAN stack reeds on top of one another, so it's not outside the realm of possibility.
