who planted that ugly tree in my field

Why not use pistons instead? surely alot is lost in that setup from the drop falling on the bottom "sprout"unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Something I cooked up on creative. I know I'm not the first guy to build a cactus farm, but this setup is about as compact as I can manage and completely modular. Each 12-cacti layer generates roughly one cacti per minute. Three generate about 30 every ten minutes. If I quadrupled the height or added three more quadrants, it'd be about two stacks of cacti in ten minutes, which should be more than sufficient.
Not only can't cacti grow past signs, but they won't get caught up in them either. Wall the thing off or build it underground to keep the stuff from spilling outside. Items will rarely if at all land on lower layers of cacti, so I'd say this is pretty much 99% efficient.
If anybody needs cacti, I'm going to build one of theses things adjacent to my tree farm at the exchange.

Actually no. After thirty minutes, I ducked in and out of the configuration and only picked up three cacti.
If you wanted to prevent even that, you could stand the block of sand up on two or three blocks rather than one to be sure that any falling items will be sure to hit a solid block and fall straight down. That would add a lot of unnecessary bulk to the build, though.
Or you could try water down each of the holes to arrest lateral item-popping momentum, but that may just sometimes stop popping cacti on top of the very sprouts they sprung from.

EDIT: You only got 3 after 30 minutes? that sounds kinda impossibly bad?
I did test something else though because of it. I tried dropping some items on top of cacti sprouts and had them disappear straight away. So very few are disappearing in that manner, bringing the efficiency is closer to about 80%. I watched them for a bit and most of them bumped into blocks and fell straight down. The ones that get caught up in the honeycomb are lost anyhow, regardless of whether they float on a corner or are lost in a cactus block.FloppY_ wrote:
oic misunderstood that sentance...
There 6 stacks of seeds in the chest in front of my farm, feel free to take those if you still need them!Camm wrote:
