Yes, we will get the new blocks. We just go exploring in unregenerate chucks and it should generate new stuff. I will discuss with the non bf2s groups to see if starting a new map is ok.

Starting to like the idea of a new server, find a nice spot (away from snow) with mountains and canyons and just all work to make a new settlement.

From what i'm reading. 1.8 is still buggy and unoptimizated compared to 1.7.3 release.(Single and multiplayer.) It will probably be a couple patches before its better.

Apparently under the Licence Agreement, you can't download minecraft from anywhere else except minecraft.net. Because, of this i'm having a hard time finding an unaltered copy of 1.7.3.

Isnt there a function/program that would let you cut out the town and place i tin a new world so we'll at least have new chunks around the corner?

I dont care about the new biomes, weve gone past the adventure stage on the server now. And if you really feel the need to explore, just warp to an outpost and walk (or create a new warpzone).
I just want the new blocks and functions.

I dont get how to set it back. I just copy that file you posted as minecraft.jar in in the .minecraft/bin/ and replace the old minecraft.jar right?
Because i tried that and it was still 1.8 when i ran it.
