Just looked at the tv behind me and saw:

Would this even be possible?
I mean besides the fact that aiming is impossible, just the physics of it... someone shooting at someone else free falling... I don't recall the terminal velocity of a bullet vs a human..

Discuss?

bullet goes like 2000KM/h   free-fall is 200KM/h   should work

muzzle velocity is much higher than the terminal velocity of a freefalling skydiver

350m/s+ vs about 50m/s

Yeah, but considering the speed you are falling the bullet travels alot further than just the distance between the shootee and shooter, wouldn't this slow it down significantly?

derp

net muzzle velocity is at least 300m/s, most guns have higher muzzle velocity than that anyway

considering they were shooting at each other at 50, maybe 100m at the farthest, acceleration/deceleration would have next to no effect

IMO Freefall...and wind against bullet should only diminish the blast power by 2-4%. So yeah... kill or be killed.

v(x) has nothing to do with v(y)  so the horizontal speed is the same as the muzzle velocity.

hmm...well, before the bullet exits your gun, it is already traveling in the same direction and speed as you and your target. So, if you were falling in a vacuum you wouldn't have to make any adjustments to your shot.  I think you may have to factor in the upward resistance of wind in a real world situation though.

e: Although it is the same resistance that you and the target are getting...

scene seems plausible.

What Bevo said.

I didn't watch the video, but if he's not shooting upwards there's little to slow it down..

The bullet travels equally as fast in a horizontal line if you're shooting from free fall or standing still.

there's little anyway

gravity acts at 9.8m/s^2

that means at 100m, only about .3 seconds elapse

which means deceleration/acceleration is about 1/ms if you're shooting straight up or down

nothing

Just to put that movies desire for accuracy into perspective, he kills a guy with a carrot in it.

Anyway, you can only assume a bullet travels fast enough that the deviation would be negligible.

I know the movie is rediculouso

ffs he kills a guy with 3 bullets between his own fingers by sticking his hand in a fire, causing them to go off

Planes aren't usually in freefall when trying to shoot another plane.

How is it out of that entire movie you pick the most plausible thing to question?

Bullet ~350m/s
Skydiver ~50-70m/s
Distances looked like 10-25-50 metres, some of the shots were virtually straight up.

Not impossible but pretty bloody hard.

(Bear in mind the effective 'crosswind' of 50-70m/s would take a little time to have an effect on the bullet trajectory)

Automatic weapons would make it less hard.
