Asking for a new comp for Xmas and I've been looking at this setup (not the complete but the main parts I've listed here).

Would this be a good future system and would it run all (or most) current high-end games with little issue (in general)?

Processor:
Intel® Core™ i5-650 Processor
- 3.2 GHz
- 2.5 GT/s DMI
- 4 MB Smart Cache

Operating System:
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium

RAM:
6 GB

Graphics card:
ATI Radeon HD 5450
1GB memory

Hard drive:
1 TB

Seems decent enough. Although I've been out of the loop for a while.

Maybe drop a stick of RAM (4 should be plenty for gaming), bump up to the i5 750, and try the new gtx 460.

Would the GTX 260 be a good compromise?

I think the 460 is a worthy improvement for a small cost ($20-$30 from the looks of newegg).

Don't have Newegg here so I'm going through Dell, which for the particular model I'm going for (I've got a price range to keep within) only has the options of the Radeon Card, or a GTX 260.

Is building it yourself not an option? You save money, it's good for learning...

This, and if you can't build yourself ask a local pc shop. I'm sure they'll do it for a small fee

edit: also some company's offer insurance for a small cost for a month after you buy the parts to cover assembly

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

I wish I could, but afraid not mate. I know its got the benefits in terms of price and components but I'm just going to run it through Dell like the one I'm currently using.

Edit: Hmm, I'll take a look around (there's a shop I've used for repairs in the past which I think custom-builds), but the Dell will be my backup choice.

What was the budget, just out of curiousity?
Want to see what that sorta setup from dell would cost.

Price range is going to be at most £1000. My parents will be footing most of the bill, and I'll be putting as much as I can toward it.

This was the setup I threw together on Dell's site.

If you build it yourself you can get a much nicer rig.

I'll have to see what I can do but there's not too many places around here.

But for now, would that system I posted up be a good one?

What do you mean places?

You don't need a "place" to build it yourself. Presumably you have a house/flat/shed/castle/barn that you live in and can get the parts delivered to. That's all you need.

That and a screwdriver.

I wouldn't trust myself to put a computer together.

I never put a computer together before this one, had no trouble really. It's pretty straightforward.

Even so, I'd rather have it delivered as a complete package so that when I get it at Christmas, I can plug in and get going rather than having to throw it together or attempt to throw together, with the potential to do something wrong.

At this time I just need to know if the setup I picked is any good. Anything else I can look into later.
