I remember back in the 90's he was one of my favourite writers for PC Zone, back when it was a good PC games magazine.
He was anything but a casual gamer - who started his career as one of the founders of Computer Exchange.

and i mean, what the fuck, one of the main areas of 'sarcastic criticism' in the show was dara o'brien talking about games 'denying' him content by their 'difficulty'. his entire point was: 'i paid £40 for the full game and when i get stuck at 11% progress, i'm being ripped out of £35'. if that isnt a casual attitude to content and gaming, then i don't know what is-- and thoroughly unfunny, too. that's the reason world of warcraft has waned in quality and died: blizzard pandering to the casual noobs and making all the raid-instance content and all the gear accessible to everyone.

I'd say being a writer for a PC games magazine and being a founding member of a shop like Computer Exchange shows he is, or at least was, a gamer. Not a hardcore gamer, but not a casual gamer either.Uzique wrote:

These days it seems he has become a casual gamer. Which is to be expected.
I remember a radio interview focusing mainly on games he did a while back where he came across very differently than in that Gameswipe thing - which was clearly for a casual gamer audience.
