Do you think it will be once possible for robots to become advanced enough that they will be ble to replace many human jobs, like fighter piloting, to being a lawyer, to engineering? Machines tend to be good at repetitive tasks. However, do you think that they could ever replace humans in jobs that involve many basic human emotions and characteristics, like instinct, gut feeling, and motivated perserverance?

I meant, could AI replace basic human jobs that aren't repetitive?

At the pace that successive generations are getting dumber and lazier, and programming 'expert systems' are getting more advanced, yeah..

Jobs like a lawyer and engineer require creativity. You can't program creativity.

I'm a firm believer that there is a time and place for incorporating the irrational and illogical, as they are often hand-in-hand with creative "outside the box" thinking.  Although I'm sure one could develop an AI that would make illogical decisions, the ability to know when it's pertinent to do so seems like something that would fall outside the realm of its abilities.

Just one example...you could have a computer design a car that is optimal in terms of drag coefficient, power-to-weight ratio, weight distribution, etc., but that "perfect" result might look much less desirable to consumers than something the folks at Ferrari produce, and might only perform marginally better.

This debate sort of needs to incorporate a discussion on "taste," as "best" is not always most desirable, depending on context.
