Find a line of work where your drive is more or less the norm. You can't blame a company for hiring monkeys to do a monkey's job - you might be doing that monkey job really well, but that is not the kind of people the job typically attracts.

For you maybe. From the sound of it, you have no career.

But I have to agree with you on some level. If I had no need for money to survive, I'm sure what I would be doing.

what does "career" have to do with anything? how exactly does it make work anymore enjoyable?

It can if you enjoy a sense of progression and accomplishment. It gives you something to measure against, some to compare against.

I've had long periods without a job. If I won a million dollars tomorrow, I'd still keep working. I enjoy my work, I feel good when I arrive and when I leave. I like the feeling of being productive with my time as it makes the free time I have more enjoyable, more worthwhile.

Call it delusion if you want, I call it a feeling of satisfied balance between my work and leisure lifestyle.
i'm not projecting any beleafs, i'm stating an opinion. maybe i worded it badly. maybe. but tell me - how exactly your feeling of being productive is tied to your work? wouldn't you be able to find stuff to do without selling your abilities and time to some company?
I work for a NGO supporting carers of people with mental illness. It is something I am passionate about, and I've always had an interest in psychology. The work is good, the people great and most of the time it's not like I'm even at work, more like a second home.

My other career path I've followed more actively (and much longer) is music. Playing music to people who love it is such a buzz I can't even begin to desribe to someone who hasn't experienced it. Plus the perks of free travel/food/drinks/accom and partying up can be completely awesome too - and you get to meet some cool people along the way.

If you find something you're passionate about and love doing, then it's not really "work" in the traditional 9-5 daily-grind kinda way - but it is a career/occupation/job.

Continue your stellar performance.  Hell, double down on your efforts.  Keep making the rest of the losers look bad.  And stop caring about them, they don't even care enough about themselves to try.  fuck em.  Voice your concerns to the higher ups and lay a salvo of torpedoes toward the slackers.  A line about how they're sabotaging the company by lackluster performance could work.  At least then it will be on the bossman's radar.  Then keep getting promoted.  Begin lay offs.  Keep on drinking Stone products (lucky bastard).

If you don't want to go all ruthless on the bitches -leave your problems at work.  I have to do this as the slackers where I'm at are 'untouchables' (off every Thursday for golf, work harder at getting out of stuff to do rather than just do it).  Bosses see it and I have been promoted 3 times in the last 4 years.  I now have a bit more teeth and they have to do the shit I tell them to (hurray middle management).  I have to stay on them, but shit gets done.  I look at it this way... The people I'm telling what to do have been here (some two decades) longer than I.  If they had put forth any effort at all, they would be telling me what to do.  They don't care about work??  Whatever then, they did it to themselves and I could care less.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

this is what i've been trying to point out. work, by definition, is something that has a sort of irrepairable part that will always leave one unsatisfied - it's the reward one gets for doing it. have you ever seen a person who'd tell you "i make enough, i don't need a raise"? i'm sure at some point we've all been told something like "what you are good at? what are your interests? make that work and bring you money!" - and this is the biggest pile o'bullshit there ever was. never ever do something you really enjoy doing for living, otherwise you are spoiling it for yourself.

Not true, working in an interesting, challenging and rewarding job as part of a great team is unbeatable, it doesn't even feel like work.
There's no-one who'd refuse more money, and if you're in a shit job that is the only reward.

when somebody comes up with a rational argument explaining how exacltly their enjoyment of doing stuff is tied to that stuff being a part of their job then we'll talk. untill then - they are brainwashed. just shut up yourself.

Its not tied to it.

There are several ways of approaching it.

1) Figure out what you enjoy, figure out a way to get paid doing it.

2) Accept your job is not the greatest, but it gives you the money to do the things you do enjoy - so turn up, plod away, clock off - being cheerful about it makes the day go quicker, as does a bit of banter, interaction with your colleagues etc. You're getting paid so presumably someone somewhere needs it done and therefore is showing their appreciation by paying you.

3) Make an effort to enjoy the work, however shit it is, take pride in it, do the best you can - you'll get satisfaction that way.

Film line: "You can be happy or sad - its up to you"

At the end of the day the only person who can pull you out of a hole is you, you have to find meaning, its not going to be handed to you.

wat? you posted several paragraphs of stuff about yourself. none of that answers my questions, here, let me repeat them:

1. would you enjoy doing stuff you described in that post if it wasn't your job? (y/n)
2. does being your job - something you do for a living - add anything to the sence of enjoyment you get from doint that stuff? (y/n)

People who enjoy their work aren't brainwashed. We aren't all brainwashed by Western capitalist propaganda. You're not the only with an open mind that is yet to be sullied by television brainwashing. People can enjoy their work, here's a very simple example for you.

Endorphins cause the person to feel "happy". Endorphins are released when you exercise and win/achieve. A personal trainer or a sportsman thus enjoys their job.

End of this.
