The Sunni-Shia conflict runs deep.  Ahmadinejad probably hates the Saudis only less than he hates the Israelis.

With Iraq ineffective (as of 2001) as a counter to Iranian power in the region, it'd be interesting to see Saudi Arabia take a more overt active role.

I'd really prefer a more moderate-government Persia to take the place of the current Iranian theocracy, and I'd prefer the company of such a Persia over the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is our ally, but they are no-one's friend.

Which is why invading Iraq made less than zero sense.

For the supposed 'balance' theory to work you can't remove one of the counter-weights, threaten the other counter-weight and then be surprised that the whole thing has fallen over.

Its worse when you created the seesaw in the first place...

And seeing their two neighbours invaded by a superpower triggered them to kick off their nuke program.

I can't remember, did anything good come out of the war of terror? (Apart from lowing being sent to a war zone)

If North Korea was smart the day Israel attacks Iran they should attack South Korea.

Also, I hope the United States at LEAST helps Israel with logistic support like air refueling tankers, radar jamming, and reconnaissance (UAV/Satellites) support - that's the least we could do to help.

That wouldn't work out too well, because we have several nuclear subs.  I'm sure at least a few are positioned in that general area that would be capable of hitting Pyongyang without a problem.

Ohio's can hit anywhere, anytime. Position only matters if your trying to hide the sub (which we obviously are). Also interestingly the majority of ships and subs in the Navy are being repositioned to the Pacific, contrary to Cold War battle of the Atlantic positioning. Guess where the DoD thinks the next war is gonna happen....


Israel wise... ehh, they still don't have the long range strike capacity to really make it happen, if they did, it would have happened already, look at Syria. They wanted some of our old B-52's but Congress turned 'em down. US is not going to help Israel, that would open a whole new can of worms, where it would be obvious that the US is actually fighting the battles for Israel. There are some rumors that the NSA shut down Syria's entire air defense network during the reactor raid though. Who knows.


Also, North Korea has absolutely no reason to attack SK, except out of some paranoid fear, and even that isn't enough for Kim to give up his money machine. I mean Jesus, they really do have every psychopaths dream going in that country. Kim is god, and all worship him. Its something the Ayatollah couldn't even pull off with the help of religion.
