Oh is anyone who has served allowed to be buried there? I somehow imagine you had to be KIA or something like that.DBBrinson1 wrote:

As a veteran, former POW, and senior member of Congress - John McCain would be a very appropriate choice to lay the wreath at Arlington, since the Obama seems a little too busy to be bothered.Weak Troll wrote:
As for McCain, if he wasn't a twat and didn't choose a stupid bitch as a running mate maybe he would be there but that's your democracy for ya isn't it?
Not huge fans of Bush/Cheney either. Evangelical Christian far-right leaders tend to stomp on my Libertarian Atheist sensibilities.Dilbert_X wrote:

Glad the fuckstick-in-chief won't be anywhere near Arlington.
Much prefer he's in Chicagoland, paying respects to Oprah or whatever.
Send someone to lay the wreath that has some clue what the men are buried there for - Like McCain.
Weren't they multiple draft dodgers?

all vets are given the option. even guys without honorable discharges i think. I think the va is suppose to help pay for some of the funeral and give your next of kin a flag. lot of guys i knew volunteered to be ushers at veterans funerals to get out of work.ghettoperson wrote:

ELWOOD, Ill. -- Torrential rain, lightning, thunder and strong winds forced President Barack Obama to cancel a Memorial Day speech at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois.
Obama took the stage at midday under the cover of a large umbrella to tell thousands of people who came to hear him speak that "a little rain never hurt anybody but we don't want anybody struck by lightning."
He asked people to return to their cars for safety.
Obama waited out the storm in the cemetery's administration building. He later boarded a pair of buses to greet military families that came for the ceremony.
According to White House spokesman Bill Burton, Obama personally made the decision to warn people in the open field to take shelter. From the pool report:

Even if he does have a touch of youthful overenthusiasm regarding the military, his heart is in the right place.
Unlike a few of the other posters here, who's youthful errors would only be cleared up with a trip to drug rehab, the psych ward, or a major ego check.
