After all, they seem to get votes based on fearmongering and who better to instill fear in than the ignorant?

http://digg.com/d31R7cO

On a side note, why the hell are people allowed to introduce completely unnecessary and unrelated garbage into a bill? What in god's name does porn have to do with science jobs and education? We really ought to have some sort of litmus test for tacking things on to bills.

This country could be so much greater if we ran it properly and got rid of these boneheads who want to defeat good-for-the-country bills simply because "the enemy party" made it. That goes for both parties.

Simple solution....

Ban all riders to bills.  No more pork, no more bullshit.

Of course, this will never happen, because lobbyists would have a shitfit over it.

How DARE those EVIL Republicans demand that the budget be balanced before increasing program funding…And whats wrong with government employees getting paid to surf the net for porn while at work? Do you really want them to actually do some work? Evil Republicans!
and don't forget the 121 spineless democrats who jumped ship.

wtf are you talking about? Viewing porn at work? Incredibly small number of federal employees might do so but the reps insert a clause in a completely unrelated bill that obviously meant would fuck it up. It'd be like having a bill increasing NASA funding then inserting a clause saying 'we like rape' in order to scupper it.

the 121 'spineless' dems didn't want to vote in favour of viewing porn at work - so you're saying they should have voted FOR viewing porn yeah? The result of the republican bullshit is that science funding and education will get less money. That's a good thing as far as you're concerned right?

In an example of Republican obstructionism rendered beautiful by its simplicity, the GOP yesterday killed a House bill that would increase funding for scientific research and math and science education by forcing Democrats to vote in favor of federal employees viewing pornography.

TPM is fair and balance, , does anyone have a link for this event from maybe CNN since I have a feeling TPM isn't telling the whole story?

So had the Republican amendment be to legalize child pornography, you would still have accused the Dems of being spineless?

TPM wrote:

In this case, Republicans included a provision that would bar the federal government from paying the salaries of employees who've been disciplined for viewing pornography at work.

AP wrote:

Democrats had to pull the bill after half their members voted for the GOP measure that, in addition to severely shrinking the technology bill, put them on record as supporting the firing of government workers who view or download pornography on the job.

AP wrote:

Republicans cited recent reports of employees of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the National Science Foundation — a main benefactor of the bill — using computers to watch pornography on company time.

Rep. Lynn Jenkins, R-Kan., said an NSF decision to suspend the porn watchers for 10 days was unacceptable. "If you think a couple days of suspension, a reprimand, a transfer, is the right response, then vote against this motion."
All emphasis mine.

"in addition to severely shrinking the technology bill"

Maybe they didn't wanna vote on a neutered, maimed and unrecognizable version of the bill they originally wrote?

I must say I'm surprised you of all people don't seem to have a problem with this.

No, I don't have a problem with putting stipulations on funding that ensures people watching porn at work get fired or suspended for two weeks.

Because that's what the addition was, against more liberal handling with employees, and that's why half the fucking Democrats voted for it. It's not surprising it was spun this way, it's just astounding how many of you are bleating in concert with the moronic OP article.
